I like my job pretty well. My main complaint is that, while it's challenging, I don't feel like I'm using a lot of my potential. Also, I don't want to stay in this industry where I have all my experience, but we'll see what the future brings.

I wish there was more to do at my job, I have done nothing but browse the forums for the last 2 days. At the very least they could give me a bed in my office so I could go to sleep until they need me!

Wow I have no idea what field you're in but your situation sounds identical to my own.
I love working in IT but I am not using my potential on the job and often feel I am stagnating at the snails pace at which our campus implements new technologies.

I have no intentions of moving to another field, but like Vudu said, we'll see what the future brings.

I guess to best sum it up, I love what I do, but where I am doing it is less than ideal.

These are very sad times to be an American but where is the rage among the citizenry? Where are the flag wavers who so laud the freedoms symbolized by a flag and written by quill pens in our constitution? Why are we not rallying in the streets against this sort of attrocity? Why because we are gluttonous lazy bastards who say it won't happen to me so who cares. --Ishtar Pasteur

Well..my job has been relatively easy, has paid well, but is unsatisfiying, and working amid the heartlessness, transparent falseness and greed of corporate america has made me feel like I should be doing something more...something better with my life..which I guess is good since my job ends in about 2 weeks.. ;)

You sound like you work for the same company I do, or even worse for our Federal Government client. O.O

I love my boss, the job is ok but not what I expected, but I have been able to exceed in it. I won't leave because of my boss. He is awesome. Doesn't micro manage or put ridiculous constraints on you. He asks for input and takes the advice we give seriously.
If I have to leave early for reasons for my kids, he tells me to take some work home with me so I don't have to dock my time. I guess it helps that I am the only woman in our division so I guess I am kinda spoiled like that. LOL

I used to love what I do. Now, it's ok. Used to get in a little bit of everything though mainly responsible for the merchandise mgt system. After some reorganization of the company, I'm locked in my niche. Now, I feel the same way about stagnating. Unfortunately, once you get so high on the pay scale, it's a little difficult to just walk away and say I want something different. Plus, life in a SEC listed company is even more tedious thanks to Sarbanes-Oxley. I used to be able to knock out fixes in hours. Now with test scripts, approvals, sign offs it can take a couple of days for the very same fix.

I love my job!

I design computer-based multimedia training software for a top-ten medical school. In working with the faculty content providers, I get to use my creativity and technical savvy to bring knowledge to our students in new ways. It's a real hoot.

... and so long as my projects get done on time, I get to mess around here on the forums from work (like right now :) ).

Put me down for loving my job too. I come and go as I want, have a wonderful work environment (family atmosphere), skilled and friendly support staff and have the freedom and time to goof off here if I want to take a break.

I am paid 100% by commissions for those thinking I am saying I play on the forums on someone elses clock.

I'm a technical writer - I like it..I used to be in Technical Support and I liked it, before that I was an assistant network administrator - I loved it but hated my boss.

I'm bored with my work enviroment and my creativity is stifled...I play here all day as you can well see. Sometimes there's more to a job than just drawing a paycheck and sometimes that's what I feel I'm doing - I would seek another career path but where I live there aren't that many choices that's not already saturated with young up and coming.

I'm moderately disgruntled with my job. Mostly because I've been kept strung along on contract rather than converted to permanent (good for them, bad for me -- I'm effctively a salaried employee with no vacation and no benefits), but also because my skills aren't being effectively used. I figure with a PhD in computational physics, I can probably put to better use than running code other people have written, and proof reading sign off documents.

As dull as this job can be, it sure beats my last job (postdoctoral researcher in a large collaboration). By the time I left that position I was one bad day away from a clocktower and a lead story on the 11 o'clock news....

I love my job too. I work for a major transportation company. What's neat is I can move around to do different things if I want. I've done many things in the last 15 years but I've been in this position for the last 2 years and it's been good for me.

i worked at McD's as my last job :P i need to find another.

I hated and liked it at the same time. It just depended on who was manager for the day and what time it was. During the day we had really strict managers who want everything done right and fast. I felt like a slave all day. During the night we had managers that were much friendlier and let us do whatever. So we would have a bunch of people over, lock the doors, and have a party. All you can eat food and people would bring alcohol and weed. :P

Like it because I get to do creative stuff, including developing workshops in SL to teach people how to use it as a teaching tool. I'm an instructional designer with a university that is open to new ideas, my boss encourages exploration & creativity, & I have a lot of freedom to research & develop things that interest me (though getting the buy-in from the faculty another thing altogether - I know my fellow ID's will understand that! lol). From that perspective, it's the best job I've ever had, and I'd probably love it if I could work from home, my own hours, and made more money!

Haha... I know what you mean, my former employer was tortured with SOX (as they called it). So much time and effort was needed to change stuff (and I imagine they're still working on it all), it's not even funny. Oh well... I liked that old job. I can't answer this thread's question yet, I have yet to start the new one.

I hate my job. I'm such an ass to work for. Yesterday I was talking to myself about myself by the water cooler and happened to make an innocent comment to that effect, and wouldn't you know it I happened to overhear me. It's like I've got superman hearing or something! I got written up and reprimanded. What a bastard! I just know I'm going to pass myself over for the next promotion. That suckup me in accounting is going to get it instead! I swear if I wasn't me I'd have to fire myself or quit. The commute is hell too. Today I almost got in an accident on my way from the bedroom to the coffeemaker. I'm going down the stairs and the cat slams on the brakes right in front of me for absolutely no reason!

Er, actually... I quite enjoy my job :D

I have a love hate relationship with my job.

I go through stretches that swing between coming in on my own dime to finish projects -- to calling in sick because I'd rather shove a molten grilled cheese and tomato sandwich up my arse than get in the car to go to work.

At the moment I'm cruising at around 'rather have a papercut on my testicals than work'.. but this could change - depending on how many more dead people I see today.

Siggy.

I work for Cingular Wireless and used to love my job. Working with the technology and learning new things is always a good thing. I have been here for 7 yrs as of June 15th (go me) and have been burnt out for awhile. When I was growing up I was always into art and had wanted to make a career of it when I got the chance. Unfortunately due to a lot of unforeseen bad circumstances I never got the chance to go to college to develop and learn new skills with my art. My dad was dying of cancer and my mom was also very sick, and I was trying to make it on my own after being with a very abusive boyfriend who was stalking me and threatening my life on a constant basis.

Things don't always go as planned so fresh out of high school I started at a cellphone company and have been in the business for 9 yrs now. It is not what I had dreamed of doing at all. I don't mind the job, it's not that hard except for remembering every little detail about every phone and what goes along with them. The part of the job that is most stressful and unfullfilling is dealing with the public. People these days seem to think that being an ass will get you anything you want. Sorry but that is just not true. People come in raging about the littlest damn thing and it makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with people anymore. They come in wanting everything in the world for free and well, things arent free. I'm on commission mainly and I don't make money off of 'free'. People don't seem to understand that. I was at another location working with a few other people and then got transferred to a location to work all by myself. To make things worse I am in some little redneck town where no one seems to care about hygiene. Nasty people will come in with no shoes or shirts and I feel like I woke up in a bad episode of the Twilight Zone. I can't imagine going out in public with nasty greasy hair, dirty skin from not bathing anytime recently, smelling like something died in your pocket, and not wearing shoes or a shirt. I literally have to spray air freshner after certain people leave to get rid of the smell. Unfortunately where I work is kind of close to a not so nice part of town, but if people can come in and spend $300 on some phones then I would think they could afford some soap.

Sometimes it's nice and other times it isn't. Sure I get all the sales, but I also have to deal with all the asses. People will come in 3 minutes before closing and want to do something that takes an hour or more to accomplish. This is after I have been sitting with nothing to do for 4 hours and am way past ready to get the hell outta work. There is no such thing as overtime pay here. Another annoyance is people who purchase something at another company and expect me to help them with their problems. It isn't fair for me or the company I work for to deal with problems or questions that should be handled by where their purchase was made. I guess only people in a sales type environment can relate to this.

I had a recent situation where I let a customer use a loaner phone while they were getting a replacement. They were another companies customer but out of the kindness of my heart and against my better judgement, I loaned out the phone since they refused to help him. I figured he would do any future business with us because of that. The guy returns it after 2 months (way past the time he should have had it) and is looking for a new case for his cellphone, I show him what we have and it so happens that the other company had cheapie low quality cases with no warranty for $5 less. So he says he is going back there to get one. I wanted to tell the customer he was an ass for going back there to buy something when they wouldn't help him when he needed it. I really had to bite my tongue on that one. I hate feeling unappreciated for the things I do. I have gone out of my way to help people and what the hell do I get? I'm lucky if I get a thank you or kiss my ass or whatever. Some people will come in with a broken phone and be so angry and act like I came into their house in the middle of the night and broke it. I just wanna tell people to leave their attitudes outside and they can pick it back up on their way out. So please be nice to your salesperson and remember they have a life too and not get mad for things out of their control. Common courtesy both ways is priceless.

So do I love my job? No unfortunately I don't...I love the company I work for but I am stuck between a rock and a hard place because I desperately need the insurance due to back problems and impending surgery. It really sux to feel you have no control over things. I just turned 30 and I hate feeling like my life is just passing by while I'm still trying to catch the train. I wish I hadn't been through and am still going through so many obstacles. You just have to play the cards you have been dealt and hope you get a good hand someday.

Wow, didn't know I had rambled on so much. It happens when you are bored at work hehe.
