Maybe this will be a "sneak preview" of things to come if I ever come back to the main grid

The scripting channel was alight with talk of the new features. Personally, I'm curious who's going to be the first person to write HUD-pong

This feature has a lot of potential once object-2-object communication and HTML on a prim are released.
For casual observers, it should be pointed out that Francis' text is a picture, not actual font. _____________________

Yeah, it's probably all smoke and mirrors.
However, it IS doable. _____________________

I'll play with it when I wake up and if the sim will stay up.
Not sure what I'd really do with it yet beside make my altimeters and such HUD components. If LL would just ADD a z xoord to the mini-map (radar? WTF?) I'd probably dump that all together. I'm sure people more talented than me will come up with ingenious uses. |

Does this mean we can have our business websites on a prim in the HUD linked to an emergency button for when the boss walks in unexpectedly at the office?

Ooooh! Second Life now has widgets!
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE, give us XML-RPC capabilities soon! The only thing better than widgets are net-enabled widgets. _____________________

I hope this doesn't become an excuse to not give us a real customizable UI.

Another reason why I'd love for LL to allow us to choose to have RL user accounts.... Real Life SL Accounts ![]() _____________________

Two of my jets are totally getting this. The fact that the end user can move them around, and that there are eight HUD attachment points, is going to be a Good Thing.

Just shows exactly what I expected to see with the new HUD attachment points, and unless I miss my guess, we can do a whole lot more than the obvious (though attractive) applications we see here.
I'm waiting for someone to roll out a new set (or an update to an older set) of mech AVs with full HUDs, for instance. Configurable development tools like texture library organizers, script librarys, full graphical calculators, etc. In terms of games though, you can bet your ass I'm drooling at the applications of this new technology. The ability to add true HUDs to our games is going to add a whole new level of immersion that SL's game developers had previously only been able to implement akwardly at best. For my upcoming game projects I can't even begin to stress how invaluable this new functionality will be. |

Indeed, Alan, I have been scheming to come up with HUD solutions for my robots. The real sticking point at the moment is coming up with a usable protocol for the chat commands that prevents cross talk with different units. Gonna take a little personal growth in terms of my scripting abilities.
![]() Definitely excited about what this means for my product line, though. _____________________

The HUD is cool, but I think what Second Life really needs is CHUDs.

The HUD is mostly useless until it supports llSettext...
Francis chung's visions are not propable in secondlife because of the streamed environment. The only practical way to create what she has done artisically there would be to use TEXTURES... and those have to rez in. But again... with no llSettext support for even basic HUD functionality, the HUD attachment points are just extra places for people to put their animation overrides and dance bracelet scripts... |
