Divination in secondlife

Recently I held some tarot card readings in secondlife, one of the things I noticed about most of the people I was reading for, was that about half of the people that came, had experience reading tarot cards, but that they had never had a reading in secondlife...

Which got me thinking: Is there much of a desire for divination in secondlife, or: Do many of you out there have history in divination? Be it Tarot card reading, tea leaves, clairaudience, clairvoyance, astrology, numerology, dream interpretation, scrying, lecanomancy, lychnomancy, ornithomancy, "or whatever?" (yes there were some intentionally vague forms of divination thrown in there)

I think it might be interesting to see more of this kind of thing, especially considering how popular this:

Oh yay!! I used to know one Tarot reader in world, but I think she left. :( I would certainly be interested in visiting that service on a regular basis myself.

I do Astrology charts for a hobby, and have often thought of doing them in world for people too.

So I agree, I would love to see more of this in world! :D

My SL specialty is more conjuring than divination. For example, I can make an airplane or a robot appear out of thin air. I can also have a new outfit appear on my body instantly. ;)

I've always had an interest in Tarot cards...I've been looking for a scripted Tarot deck within Second Life to do readings with. Anyone know if someone has built such a thing?

She's the nurse... the divination teacher is Professor Trelawney.

My specialty is in the school of destruction; just ask Ben Linden about me & telehubs. ;)

I think one was being sold at the old Nomine Store, not sure if it's still there but Munchflower could, I am sure, point you in the right direction.

I've done tarot readings in SL from time to time and had pretty good results from it.

Whoops, that's what I get for posting while distracted with work and a million other things going on at the same time, hehe. You're right, of course.

I used to know someone who was working on a SL tarot deck that would perform a three-card reading, but he left SL some months back. I do believe that the Rider-Waite tarot images are old enough that they are now part of public domain (for uploading purposes), but I'm not 100% certain on that.

Once we have browser-on-a-prim capabilities in SL, people could use Facade's Tarot site to do readings that are outside SL but could be viewed and interpreted by SL users.

I did a quick search in the Find menu, and I've found a few of these tables around... In my opinion, they arn't much better then handing someone a deck of cards and telling them that suddenly every card "means things" ;)

April Firefly and I met at a meeting about just this same topic, after a few discussions we teamed up and created a scripted deck earlier this year.

Currently will do a 3 card reading but can be altered to do a 5 card (or more) spread. Note that this does not divine itself (which is why we don't mass market these), but does need someone to interpet.

Please contact April Firefly or myself if you are interested in a deck or a reading.

I've had an active interest in this sort of thing for a long time. I used to actually do readings using my real tarot deck over online chats and IMs. I still do readings for friends and people who ask me. I also do divination with runes and dream interpertation. I've been told on many occasions my dream interpertations were scarily accurate.

I'd be willing to do them again probably if someone asked.

This is exactly what I have been doing, first in TSO, and now in secondlife :)

Heh, cool! Glad to know I'm not the only one who did that. Well if you ever arrange an event and need more readers, give me a buzz. ^^

I have a great deal of skepticism for online metaphysical interaction. I believe that most divination methods used for other people require interaction and an exchange of energy to be effective, and while one could argue that the internet is nothing but energy, I still find that having it there is rather like having a very large filter between you and the person with whom you are interacting. It can be overcome, yes, but generally requires a great deal of investment on both sides, and rarely do you see that kind of committment in casual friendships.

Aside from that, I also believe that a physical connection helps strengthen a reading and create a bond between reader and readee.

Of course, this is just my beliefs.

Though I personally do not practice any of these forms of divination, I do find them interesting, and would like to see what you can do in game with it.

I definitely think if you ask around or start up a business, you could get some regular customers as well as many interested residents!
