Would you visit an Erotic Art/Photo Gallery in SL even if you could not purchase all/most of the items on display?

Ok.. This poll is really only for those who would go to an Erotic Art/Photo gallery in the first place. If you would never go to one no matter what, then this poll isn't directed at you.

I used to have *one* of the first Erotic Art/Photo galleries in SL. The world was *a lot* smaller back then. I enjoyed sharing it with others and had many that have asked several times for me to bring it back. The reason I took it down in the first place was that I was moving from one land to another. And time got away from me. During that time there began to be a lot of discussion about Copyright issues. It got me to thinking that as the SL world got bigger and then brought in the ability to trade in Lindens for real money, I realized that a good part of the art I had up may not be totally at my disposal to "sell", even for "fake" money (since suddenly it was no longer always "fake" money). And personally, I don't want to violate copyright laws just to be able to share my collection with others.

The delima caused me to continue to delay putting up my gallery. Well, now I'm really itching to share it again. But I'm wanting to set it up as a rotating gallery (changes each month), and in the future only charge for artwork which I have direct permission to do so for. But I'm also wondering if it is worth the work involved to actually make a commitment to updating the pictures, etc., if no one would be interested in the gallery unless they could purchase the pictures.

So I present my poll to you for feedback. Feedback for myself and any others that could be thinking of putting up an "art" gallery of any kind.

You know, Pen, the handful of times I visited your shop when you had it up before, I used to meet the most interesting people there.

Just because you aren't selling something doesn't mean you wouldn't attract folks interested in hanging out and, um, seeing the sights. If you want to put it back up as a gallery, I'd say go for it.

Your erotic gallery was wonderful, because you were very welcoming of all types of interests - not just the standard Playboy yawnfest slapped up for shock value ("look at the boobies!". The images were chosen with care, to not only arouse but to enlighten, and to welcome people and make them feel included. While some people have a negative view of pr0n (and in some cases rightfly so), your gallery was something special - more high art than dirty bookstore I definitely hope you bring it back in some new form soon.

And PetGirl, I always strived with my gallery to show top quality art, and with the photos, to make sure they were actually beautiful in an artistic sense as well. I mix a variety of RL photos/art and Hand Drawn photos/art. I also display works that would appeal to a variety of people. Straight, Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and sometimes things you couldn't put a label on no matter what your preference. hehe.

So in a nutshell; a little something for everyone that likes a taste of the erotic from time to time.

I would go to an erotic art show but I suspect what we are really talking aobut here is the same kind of cheap porno you see everywhere in SL.

I have been here a month or so and have run into about five of these sorts of places.

Each one was basically stolen photgraphs from the web of the dreariest kind of low brow porn. Since one can download that kind of thing from google by the ton in seconds i am not sure why anyone would be interested.

Here's hoping that I am compltely mistaken and that your gallery contains actual art!

I would like to emphasise that my gallery is showing hand drawn erotic art and paintings, not photos stolen from porn sites.

I have had brief encounters with this issue and will share what I have learned, but I will disclaim that I am not a legal advisor not have any experties in this field.

first let me start by- this is SL the legal cost to sue over damages would likely prevent just about any legal problem- just a cease and desist order would serfice.
OK. Copyright is the RIGHT to COPY - with me? if you don't have that right, you can't even photocopy the image legaly. You cant reproduce it, puting it in SL is a reproduction = illegal (technically). So it dosent even matter if you sell the image and profit you shouldnt even copy it. (thechnically)

HOW do I know if the image has a Copyright?
The image will have a small c in a circle, likely in the bottom corner. that label means do not duplicate unless you have the right to copy- Copyright.

WHAT if I dont see a Copyright?
to the best of my knowledge if its copywritten they will put the proper notification, if it isnt there, then the image is fair game to reproduce / sell.

WHAT if I want to USE a Copywritten image?
you have to request (typically in writting) a written permission from the Copyright owner. only with permission can you use the image- legally

What if I use an Image ANYWAY!?
well this is SL the chances of getting caught/reported are drastically reduced. and the profit if any earned would be likely (in most cases) not worth sueing for (sueing for damages) so the owner would likely serve a cease and desist order and threaten jail. but if you make a large amount of money you might find yourself with a monetary judgement.

In fact, as I think about it, one of the wonderful things I loved about the Poser community was that so many of the true artists in that group used the tools to create original artwork. It'd be a perfect compliment to SL.
