Basenji are African dogs, they have a cute curly tail and they dont bark. They can, and do, howl very effectively, but you wont hear them bark.  I have been interested in Basenjis since i was in grade school. My mom recommended I read a novel called ""Goodbye my Lady" in which a young boy finds a basenji and they become inseperable. I saw the movie version years later on late nite cable and it was good, but didn't do justice to the book. This little guy is the Mimic Octopus.... it lives in the Indo-west Pacific. It's very small (body, 6 cm, tentacles, 30 cm) and pretends to be various kinds of poisonous fish, snakes, etc. to fool predators.
 Wonder if it could pretend to be a Basenji? _____________________

The short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus ) is a monotreme mammal. Its milk is pink, and its young starts out as an egg that is deposited from a cloaca into a pouch until hatching. Upon hatching, the still-undeveloped young crawls to the milk gland, despite not having actual rear legs or working eyes yet. The young increases size rapidly, in the first 45 days it grows 500-fold in mass.  Australia sure has some odd animals!_____________________

The attached picture is an electric door spring. It was invented by Jerry Page when he was in the band, Crust. The instrument is struck with a drumstick in the right hand and the left hand is used to restrict the lenght of available spring, in order to produce various notes. It is an ingenious instrument that, to my knowledge, has only been used by Crust. It sounds sort of like a really fat bass. If you would like to hear what it sounds like, follow the link to Flipcake.
