Since other threads seem to turn into fights, can we keep this one just with lists? Thanks Name some fun, interesting or curious things/places to see/do/play in SL which you would recommend to others, particularly newcomers. Especially if you think that people don't know about them but would still be interested. If we could keep it G-rated, that'd be good too.. mmkay?

well This isn't something I personally do but Kashie seems to love spending HOURS finding a really tall structure, going to the top, and then jumping off. The one time I particpated I used a sub collar leash command to make her bounce like she was on a bungee cord...she didn't like that.

Try to drive vehicles up very tall sky-scraper style buildings. Get a really big trampoline, angle it, jump and see where you end up. I once landed inside someone's clock tower a few sims away. Fun stuff.

earlier today... not only is it fun, but i found that once i started practicing navigating by mouseview more, i had a much easier time flying/walking without falling into 'sinkholes'... lost much of my feelings of clumsiness just walkin' around.

Ad hoc sacrifices to Mount Ga'al are always fun! Convince a friend you want to show them a really cool volcano, stand on the precipice admiring the natural beauty, and then push them into the bubbling magma!

While they're still here, you could go check out the game development sims and the resulting projects. It only happens once a year, after all.

Sorry to be so precise, but I'm trying to have this thread for newer users to help them out and if it's not specific they may get lost

No worries, Vince. GameDev1-6 (i think) are a group of Sims for a special competition going on right now. It will be over soon, so this suggestion may not have relevence in the future. I'd love to tell you about my place, but I'm going to resist the temptation to self-promote here. I'll let someone else mention it if they think its warranted Off the top of my head: Brace Coral's New Citizens, Inc - Is a great organization that helps newbies. She runs a show & tell once a week that showcases stuffs made by new folks. StoneSelf Karuna started a thread a while back regarding groups that help New Residents in SL - that thread is here Merwan Marker is the founder of Awakening Avatars - a group that among other things, has resources to help new residents. Squagmire Stravinsky is the founder of InfoNet - an Educational-based organization that helps new residents -Ivory Tower of Primitives - a great place to start yourself off learning how to build These groups might not be *exactly* what you're looking for - and is *by no means* an incusive list - but at the very least, they might be able to steer folks in the right direction! Hope this helps!

From: Vincent Cinquetti Appreciate it, Brian Yes, and Travis is too modest to toot his own horn, so I'll toot it for him. He runs a wonderful "club" called The Shelter in Isabel that is geared toward newbies. You can pretty much find people there most of the time and everyone is extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful. There are newbie events, and freebies, and ... 80's music.

Yes, the shelter is definately cool. Also, I'm shameless and will promote my place. Just a little maze that should kill all of about 5-10 minutes at Suisun (153, 217). Not a permanent structure. I've changed it twice. Will probably change it a few more times then move on to something else. HP

I tried 'water polo' for the first time last week. Was pretty fun. Hubby Vince and I both enjoyed the 'Shelter' when we first got here.

Lets see... Things to do... Dreams Lightcloud has a skate park in erotica... could take em skateboarding.. South I has a nice skating rink for rollerskating and there are other rinks as well just cant remembe the names. Take them to any night club during the day and its usually quiet cept maybe the edge and teach them how to use the dance machines on the wall.. or on your bum.. or how bracelets work. Take them parachuting at my place! lol Take them scuba diving.. I just found a neat place. All around the coast of Dragon Moon there is a bit of underwater world and was a lot of fun to look around. Teledor is an island dedicated to a computer game called myst and its gorgeous. The build is incredible. I also recommend Dragon or Gyspy moon just for the landscaping. Take them to a mall like Centerville or Slootsville.. both great places to shop and has most everything you need. Unfortunately, Spittoonie is gone.. *a fave when i was newb* but there are other small little amusement parks.. I will send you some links when I go in world. Take them to any of the games in Sl.. like Tringo,Slingo,Quintzee,BLood21, Spades, Trivia. Take them to water polo... and to the shelter. Travis has this trivia game that looked like so much fun. His place is always comfy and people are friendly. Boxing! hehe... always a kick. Atlantis sim... awesome.. all underwater. totally rocks. Midnight city... definitely has the feel of city Isle of Bliss.... sure its BDSM flavor but still really pretty... just dont take em inside if you want to keep it pg Very informative if they are looking for that. Serenity Gardens... ... There are just so many great builds out there. Tower of the Library of Primitives.. so they can self teach themselves how to build! Great place! Cubbeys place too... really neat. Dont forget the Yadnis Junkyard. Woot.. what a treasure when I was newbie. Hope those are some ideas you didnt already think of.

The Free Bazzar in Stillman (I'm at work so I don't have a landmark). It's excellent for newbies because it's fun to wander around in and they can pick up a lot of fun free things.

The train ride in the Atoll continent is cool and will be even better by the end of the month when stations will be added at it's five stops. The Hobo Village at the Calleta stop is a personal favorite. Add my thumbs up for the top dog's Shelter, too.

Travis, you go, dawg! The Shelter is fantastic and very friendly. Lauk's Nest is an amazing build. Teledor, as has been mentioned, is absolutely beautiful. Montmartre (especially on Knot Another Quiz nights) features some of SL's most talented builders. Don't forget live music events: Astrin Few and Frogg Marlowe (to name just two) The Game Dev. sims are so cool! MST3K--The Home Game (a bit racier, but funny as all get-out) is a hoot if you have the hardware. Captions is also tons of fun! The weekly poetry readings at ElvenGlen are also wonderful!

here are some places i've really enjoyed as a newbie: THE SHELTER - everyone is very welcoming and helpful. lots of freebies, fun events, and great music. IVORY TOWER - excellent building tutorials! they also have a great sandbox that seems to always be empty. no worries about getting shot at, or people building on top of you. (i might regret giving that secret away) THESE FORUMS - despite the in-fighting, etc., this really is a great place to go for newbies. you can ask dumb newbie questions, and most people are very helpful. i've found answers to nearly all my questions on these forums.

Wow! Thanks guys! This list really is growing fast. I will have to catalogue it all or something. See if I can visit most of them and make secondlife:// links.

Cayman is a beautiful sim to explore. Great place to just wander around soaking in the ambience. I especially like to be there at sunset. Chill on the docks of one of the old cabins and watch the fireflies come out.
