In another forum unrelated to SL, I posted some antagonistic views for fun and to see if I could then defend them. I posted them almost a year ago. Now, for what may be the first time in my life, I actually feel some regret. Not because I caused people angst (are you kidding, scrunchy faces are the best part!) or to question their views, but because my email box is now filled with emails from a single, self-righteous crazy person. I'm not writing them off by labeling them crazy, I'm labeling them crazy because I've taken entheogens enough to know how a crazy person thinks.
Remember that person that used to post novellas in the forums until they got banned? Now imagine those posts, but with no logical order and containing nothing but relentless, disjointed, stream-of consciousness venting with only bizarre associations from one idea to the next (at best). I never thought absurdism would defeat me in any way. But now I'm doubting myself. Am I having an off day? Am I growing too old? Why isn't this situation as funny as it normally would be? It's slightly unnerving, really. I still laughed, but with a sigh of regret. Yeah. Must be getting old. The apple has fallen, but thankfully still not far from the triangle.
When was the first time you guys suddenly felt old? Sigh. Maybe I just need more coffee.

From: Chance Abattoir When was the first time you guys suddenly felt old? Sigh. Maybe I just need more coffee. When my friends were pondering how to get new clothes for Barbie and refills for their Easy-Bake ovens, I was wondering if Nixon was getting a bum rap. I was BORN old.

Didn't the neighbors question why all your friends were little kids? That's kind of creepy.

I was BORN old. Me too, but I reverse aged and did magic mushrooms in my 40's. This person would have gone off whether you had provided a focus for their obsession or not Chance. With age, comes experience, comes empathy and it's just kind of sad and it makes you feel a little tired because there is absolutely nothing that you can do to change it.

I was BORN old. After majic-marker make-overs, Barbies always ended up buried up to their necks in my back yard. I was BORN weird. Chance, sorry to hear that you are being hate e-mailed. But, hey, you can always join me in Sparta.

I think you're right about this part. I guess what bothers me is that I feel like I should reason with them, to get their emotions under control regarding something that was said over a year ago, but I knew both beforehand and afterwards that communication would be and is useless... and it sucks being right. The empathy comes with understanding their viewpoint but knowing that there isn't a chance in hell they will stop to consider that yours could possibly be anything other than what they've decided it is. Sometimes the most effective thing to do is nothing because people need to feel like they're empowering themselves by changing their viewpoints on their own. But I still feel like I WANT to make them listen (although I obviously WANT to laugh at the same time because irony always makes me laugh).

please, please tell me that the forum in question is Tivo Secret Easter Eggs, or something similar. This story would be so much better if the person is snapping over a technical issue.

If it is POSSIBLE to agree on a stasis point between two sides of an argument, then I don't take it personally and can be completely okay with another person's ire. Are you going to shave your head?

I really shouldn't say because a year from now they might join Second Life and discover this thread and then I'll get another slew of emails. As far as I can tell, it all boils down to me being morally, ethically, intellectually, and existentially unfit.

Yeah, you basically can't get people like me to shut the hell up, you're screwed I think I just thought of the persona they most embody. Do you remember the "Minuteman" in the forums a while back? I think his name was... "GrayFriar" or something like that. A lot like that guy's persona, but less of the sens e making is.

Are you sure he's actually writing these himself and not just using an automatic essay generator like this one? http://radioworldwide.gospelcom.net/essaygenerator/essay.php BTW I entered 'Chance has an e-stalker' as a topic and it came out with some amusing drivel, the best of which was: 'Status, Security, Fame - Chance has an e-stalker, all revolve around this 'golden fleece'. Just as a dog will return to its own sick, society will return to Chance has an e-stalker, again and again.'

I suppose really the lesson we all learn in puting up inciting posts is: "go to bed with the devil and sooner or later you have to F&*K."
