From: Hiro Pendragon[B Coast Guard says it is working on 44 oil spills, 4 major [/B] Gee, kinda sounds like the Feds are responding at least as well as could be expected if not more. So, what's your point? C'mon now.. take a position and defend it.. Don't just stir the shit, and then sit back and smirk.

From: Plenipotientiary Extraordinaire Oh stop it. You're making me laugh too hard by your taking a position of "being wronged and attacked".
Reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallly.
Weasel-wording and rhetorical two-stepping is, in the final analysis I guess, all I should have expected in response. Not wronged. Just attacked. I'm glad you can laugh about something like this. Wait, no I'm not.

Have you seen the video footage of whole parishes that were dried out and are now a massive tar-crusted mass? By "evaporated" and they mean that the oil has evaporated, sure, and a thick black sludge has been "contained" in one spot - that spot being huge tracts of land in the eastern area of the delta east of New Orleans.

From: Kendra Bancroft They were at 90% efficiency. Know what that means for a levee? means they weren't working at all.
As far as the wetlands go --if they had been saved, they would have acted as the much needed "nature's sponge" that infact have kept N.O dry as a bone for --hmmm --FOREVER. If Commander Cuckoobananas was so freakin' excited to stuff money down his corporate cronies panties every second of the day --we'd have had our wetlands and probably no problem with the levee.
Oh and please stop with the RW talking points -- they make you seem ill-informed. ROFLMAO. Not working at all.. Right. The levee on the north-facing shoreline of Lake Ponchatrain was NOT over-topped to any significant extent west of the Chalmette area. Only after the 17th Sreet Canal levee was breached did the majority of New Orleans proper flood to any significant extent. The Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet levees were breached in two places - in one case, the USCG believes, as a result of a barge that broke loose from its moorings and rammed the levee at the height of the storm's fury. In total, there were five unexpected breaches - three of them relatively minor in and of themselves. Relatively as in, could have been handled by the pumping system had it not been overwhelmed by the two major breaches -- the 17th Street Canal breach and one of the MR-GO breaches. As for the protection of the wetlands... have you looked at the satellite imagery and seen what is currently under water in Southeastern Louisiana? Even at LSU, which has a vested interest as a University in making the case that coastal erosion is so extreme something MUST BE DONE YESTERDAY, professors in the Geography department there are still debating whether or not a few barrier islands a couple thousand yards offshore would have made much difference considering the exact path of Katrina. Your own extermist postion is making you look far sillier than the most extreme pro-Bush or Pro-Republican position on any issue if you ask me.

From: Hiro Pendragon You miss the big picture. The Sierra Club (tree-hugging liberals) was part of the beaurocracy that I speak of. I don't single out Republican or Democrat. This is a huge mess caused by all sorts of political ideologies. But no one on either side put their foot down and fixed it.
I ain't playin' partisan here, no reason for you to. That is true, Hiro. Part of the partisan divide in this country is the fact that neither side can admit to any of their mistakes at all.

From: Hiro Pendragon Not wronged. Just attacked. Aw... I didn't mean to attack poor little you.. just your manner of posting rubbish. From: someone The point wasn't about responding. It was about preventing.

By "evaporated" and they mean that the oil has evaporated, sure, and a thick black sludge has been "contained" in one spot - that spot being huge tracts of land in the eastern area of the delta east of New Orleans. Uh huh.. preventing. And just how would YOU have prevented this? I asked that before - "why aren't YOU down there/in the Disaster Response industry"? You obviously have all the answers... Put your ideas to the test - apply for a job if you think you are qualified. I hear EOP's across the nation are looking for good people --- oh wait... You might not actually have the qualifications to get hired, huh? Oops. Have I seen video footage? Nope. Sorry. I have been in Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Terrebonne and Jefferson Parishes personally. I don't need to watch nationally-televised footage selected and edited for sensationalist value. I've been IN boats, wading through water and climbing in and out of buildings, attics and roof openings off and on since the hurricane hit. I have relatives down in that area, remember? See, I have been ON THE GROUND, in the water and even flown over a couple areas in a friend's plane looking for friends, relatives and others who haven't yet been found. This happens to be the second day of "down time" I have forced myself to take since the hurricane made landfall. So, take your smug answers and solutions and put them to the test somewhere.... or at least provide a/keep things in context when you post something like "oil spills" and "not recovered".

From: Plenipotientiary Extraordinaire
have YOU ever tried to evacuate medical patients? You DO realize, of course, the number of such patients that are not relatively easily reachable at hospitals and such in a city as large and as populated as New Orleans… you do, right? Of course you do. You know everything.
But of course you are intimately familiar with the geography of the New Orleans-Baton Rouge/West Bank area and know that the road system is REALLY designed for people to traipse along 90 miles in sweltering heat... "Yeah, you right" as New Orleanians say.
Or were you just planning to change the bitch and whine quotient when an unlicensed/unqualified driver had an accident with a busload of evacuees and killed them (as a licensed driver did have happen!).
you knew that, right? How well do YOU know the streets of a town 90 miles away from where YOU live?
because YOU would have been able to control the spray of not only your own bullets and all of those of your troops, you’d have been able to control the spray of bullets from the gang also… right? Of course you would have.
Uh huh. So, you have portrayed the situation accurately because you happen to have read something or talked to 1-12 people… And that makes you an omniscient individual who KNOWS what went right, what went wrong and jus how things should have worked in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama? Why aren’t you working in the Disaster Prevention and Recovery industry then? If you know so much, why aren’t you part of the solution?
I think maybe we should blame …… you. Why not? You have all the answers and didn’t prevent the situation.
Or, is it just hot air you expound? Are you just an armchair quarterback who KNOWS what he knows and damn the facts? I know what I think the answer to those questions are. You forgot "neener-neener" and "I know you are but what am I?" I only quoted the condescending part of your response. Now imagine how much more likely someone would actually listen and admit they were wrong if all that junk wasn't in there? What fraction of your total response was devoted to righteousness? 1/3? Not to mention that it makes YOU look like an armchair quarterback know-it-all. Just an observation from a stranger. I actually liked reading the informative parts where I didn't feel embarrassed for you. Feel free to flame me.

Everytime the Bush administration screws up (which is a constant at this point) they yell out -" don't play partisan politics" and "No Blame Game" here's the problem with that thinking -- I'm not "Playing" and it's not a "Game"

Jesus. I finally got through this thread. A lot of it was really difficult to read because of all the self-righteous bullshit. Calm down people. Be civil. Keep a journal, come back to this thread in 3 months once you've had time to grieve.

From: Kendra Bancroft I didn't. I find you to be an ill-informed source. And I find you to be an ideologue whose activism too-often-for-me interferes with the occasional nugget of rationality that is the only reason I don't merely skip over 99.999999% of your posts or simply put you on ignore. As for my sources and sourcing, I'll stack my depth of knowledge on the current situation and/or my sources up against any you propose provided you do the same. I don't trust any single source, no known biased sources, and rarely believe anyone illustrating a point when the illustration is obviously an extreme, unique and/or limited example of the point attempting to be made. I also know that what I have personally seen and experienced is only a small part of what is going on - but that that MUST color my perception of other information. Do you grant that as far as your own experience and interpretations? I have yet to see any evidence of such on your part, which is why I used the term ideologue above. Unlike your so-often-stated position here in the forums, I don't believe the government or anyone else is out to get me or any one else. I think that elected officials and bureauucrats have often unenviable positions that certain people love to take potshots at --- while being ill or totaly uninformed. Even aides are unaware of the actual knowledge of elected officials on any single issue so how can anyone not in a particular position dare claim he or she could have done a better job without knowing the basis upon which decisions are/were actually made and the actual motivations of the decision makers (which pundits and 'opponents' so often devine (sp?) apparently through telepathy). Reading the news doesn't make you informed. It only gives you an appearance of being so to others who read the same news from the same sources... and it seems that your preferred sources are primarily biased ones. So... consider me, my sources and my opinion as you will. I could care less. I'll continue to point out the bias and errors in things that you so frequently post from your own ill-iinformed/biased position.

Actually --my opinion is that the current administration doesn't care about the people it governs, nor does it actually believe in government. So if you're going to categorize me at least state my position factually. kthxbye
