People are people,

Simple but oft forgotten.

Political correctness, liberalism, hate speech, now the shift key.

Capitalization activists, the next special interest group.

Back in my day activists were known as busybodies who minded OTHER peoples business :)

Its about the individual, not confirmity. Another simple idea oft forgotten. Expression is natural. Clothes, houses, language, personality, names and letters.

CREATIVITY!

How silly we get when we mind other peoples business.

I'm making a case for either upper or lower or both.

How else is someone to know you? If you follow ALL the rules? you are NO one, except the letter of the law.

THE ABOVE discussion was off the cuff and designed to impress the impressionable and get me dates.

I am not saying that it should be one way or another, but I KNOW about people making mistakes when they sign up a name. Sometimes someone would not realize that they put a name in all lower case, and can't change it, even if they wanted to. I am in no way saying that names should be one way or another. Well, in the use of caps anyway. Having numbers in a name, that is another story all together ;)

Information Confirmation At Signup
08-07-2005 19:50
When I originally signed up here I was under the impression that my SL Name acted as more of a username than a display name which is why mine is all lower case. I suppose I should be glad I didn't put in odiouskangaroo which is my username on most services as it would look really out of place. I really think the SL Signup process needs an additional page at the end with a summary of the information entered and a confirm button. I suggest applying a red asterisk to anything that SL detects is out of place like name capitolization for example. If SL signup had a confirm screen I probably would have caught the error.

From: Brian Livingston
I think it would be optimal if the signup screen would, upon detecting an abnormal capitalization selection, go to another screen that would ask the user to confirm that this is the way they want their name, after explaining briefly that the majority of users choose traditionally capitalized names and whatnot. That waqy, if someone really watns that name in all capitals, they can still have it, but for those who may've made a mistake, they have the opportunity to correct it.
