How do you measure success in Second Life?
There is no "All of the Above" option, because I would like folks to pick what the feel is the most important to them.
We all want something out of Second Life, or we wouldn't log on. It might be the enjoyment of building, the socializing, the scripting, the exploring, or whatever. And usually we spend our time in pursuits that we enjoy while in-world. But when or what would it take to make you sit back for a few moments and feel truly satisfied or happy with what you've accomplished?

success in my second life is the land and the small town randy and i have built on it. right now, it includes two houses, my office, 5 apartment houses, a sky club, an airport, lake charlotte, two small park areas, a picnic area and a beautiful waterfall. second would be my killer wardrobe. yay!

If I'm being entertained by SL, then I am successful at it.

Mine is measured by how many prims in my "Dream Penis" attachment. I'm up to 768, and I still have to add the vibrating clitoral stimulator, the creamy colored particle emitter, and virus protection. - Ace

If I'm having fun and the majority of my posts lack " ", I'm probably on the right track. Fame and fortune would be nice, I suppose, but I'm not aiming for it

I would have to say association is alot of it, I don't want to bring the FIC into this, lol.. But a combination of how long you've been in SL and who you talk to.. I have no idea how much money a great deal of people make and I consider them successful, I know a few people who make a great deal of money and don't consider them incredibly successful. And the longer they've been in SL, the more time they've had to figure out what its all about, what they want to do, and what makes them truly successful ....... That sounds so corny, sorry folks! ------------ Zap

Other: when Prokofy complains about someone or something, it's a pretty good indicator of success.

Ugh, Nolan still stalking and still obsessed.
Measuring a business by US $1000/month isn't realistic. I dont require that amount to consider that I have a successful business in SL.

I chose other because success to me is accomplishing any goals I set for myself in Second Life. My goal is to enjoy what SL has to offer and I have done this and still do. If others have done this, then they are a success no matter how big or small their goals or accomplishments are

The first thing that would make be feel like a success in SL would be if I could get all you people to come together and sing in peace and harmony. The second thing would be if I could finally attain all encompassing power over every living being in the grid.

If I'm happy, if the Residents around me are happy, that's a pretty good measure of success based on everything that can (and does) go wrong in the world, online or offline. I'm not particularly goal-oriented or into truckloads of expectations, but I'll set little mini-goals for myself and go on little arc-tangents across the gridverse. But then, the measure is quite relative, because with love, for example: it can keep growing and growing.

For me it was a toss up between 1 and 2, but I went with 1. Making a supplemental income is a wonderful thing, but what really keeps me hooked is knowing that other people's experience is enriched by some of the things I make. Getting to chat with so many really smart and funny people is a very close 2nd. I'm not the most social person though, so I'm happiest when I'm focused on a project.

Days until grid self-awareness.
Or a ruler. I'm flexible either way.

Yeah, me too -- if the money wasn't an issue I'd be happy as a clam giving stuff out to people that I made. SL has bailed me out a few times in the past

I have to say friends, and the new people you meet. When I first started spending a lot of time in SL I was traveling 5-6 days a week for my job. I was completely disconnected from my first life (friends and family) due for working 70 plus hours a week. I started logging into SL from my laptop in airports and bam! I wasn't sitting in a Omaha airport alone, but I was in my house talking to my friends. That just rocked and it still does.

I think for my first few months, it was having good friends, and while that's still important to me, I find myself restless and dissatisfied with my contributions to the community. I chose 1., because I would love to build something thatmade folks feel good when they looked at it. I've gotten some compliments on my home, and the club, and the now-gone Tir Na Nog, but I know I can do better. But it is a frustration for me.
I really am envious of the productive folks in SL, because I seem to spend alot of my time spinning my wheels and not getting the ideas in my head to spill out into finished projects in SL.
