i'm too new to lose anything. i'll actually recover more L$ each week without the taxes. so i'm one of those they're talking about when they say "stimulate the economy."

i like it very much. there's no way i could afford it though.
i was under the impressions that most of these wonderful builds were group owned and supported. i didn't realize that so many would have to be taken down by single owners. i think 1.2 will change the face of linden more than i can imagine. |

Only recently did I find people interested in a similar theme, and hopefully after this shakeup we can get together and work on a common project. Siggy. _____________________

I'm losing out. I have a mediocre, UNFURNISHED house and a tiny shop in Darkwood. I am gonna have to close my Darkwood shop now. If I'm REAL lucky I might be able to afford to furnish my house with this pathetic "grant" we get. I just hope I don't need to upload to many textures.

That's enough to upload 50 textures, and if you get creative with the animated textures, you can get several textures into a single uploaded file. _____________________

Well let me see, on an average night I will upload about 5-10 textures. 2 or 3 will be no good once applied in-game and need to be remade. So that is about 7-13 a night. If I'm NOT trying to be creative. Figure I play 5 nights a week. That's 35 - 65 textures. That's $350 - $650 a week in JUST TEXTURES. My ratings and pathetic dwell used to offset this. But ratings don't count worth diddly anymore. So, yeah, 500 a week is nothing. And means nothing. And will result in me having NOTHING to contribute to the economy.
What this ends up meaning is that in any week where I might, oh, I don't know, wanna BUY something from another player, maybe a couple shirts, a plant, pretty much anything, I can't do any real building/experimenting. And, oh yeah, folks that sell vehicles and high ticket items. They just lost any business they had. This new economy will promote $L hoarding hoping that folks can offset extra costs to support that useless chunk of cliffside they bought in order to have the prims to rez that coat rack. |

Here's a tidbit of info. Your animated textures that you are using that include so many others... The ENTIRE texture needs to be dumped to the users machine before it shows. Sure, it may be progrssive, so it looks like crap for a really long time. And even then, it's still getting culled on client side... And you guys wonder where the lag comes from. I bet you use 1024x1024 textures for a doorbell too huh?

Actually, I'm a hobbyist graphics programmer. I tend to make textures as small as possible -- the largest texture I've ever uploaded was 448x64, for a banner protesting the high L$ costs of land. I probably could have gone to 256x32, which graphics cards would like better, but at the cost of blurred text.
What I was thinking of with the animation and sub-texture tricks would be to put no more than four textures into a single image -- 16, if they're all small textures. Unfortunately, this wouldn't work for small repeating textures, and that's where you'd get the largest gain. _____________________

Heh, a LOT of my frustration would be alieviated if we had off-line toolsets though. *hint*hint* So I could preview textures and see how they look when rendered in SL.

I dont think Cay and me (we are all group deeded
) will lose any of our builds. We have started planning a better prim effectiveness on our grounds tho to stay this way and still be able to build when the urge arises ![]() _____________________

Geez people. $15 a month will buy you a heck of a lot of land and prims, on top of the free land and prims you get for already being members.
I mean, the Lindens already gave me my bill estimate, and between my giant underground fortress in Mocha and my Lindenworld plot, I currently am paying $0 A MONTH. That is a LOT of land, and if you people need more than that for your builds, then sheesh, pay the regular $15 fee. It's not like you weren't before. ![]() And if THAT isn't enough for you, form a group! |

Hi Corwin You are pretty familiar with my holdings and if I do not convert to Lifetime I guess I would have to pay 15/mo to keep the beach home (group owned right now), and would lose Olive, along with my other group holdins. As it stands, I will have to convert lifetime, and then spend 15-25/mo extra to maintain my lifestyle in SL. I think the Lifetime membership is a great deal. Briana Dawson _____________________

I think the lifetime membership is a crap deal. Most of us who have ever been part of a themed sim got used to the fact that we had to hold 1/16th of a sim for a project and then some more land for a house, shop, whatever. So 1/16th isnt really that much land for your average old timer.
The taxes already killed half the themes and whatever LL is going to do with groups will kill the rest. Considering that it was LL who approached us in the first place, saying "ok guys we want some themed sims, send us your proposals" or something along those lines... I wouldnt be surprised if future LL initiatives like these were met with some lack of enthusiasm :\ |

I will not be losing any land from this upgrade. My cap is higher than the amount of land I need, even.

well, i don't have much save for a small plot in bordman, so i won't be losing a thing, though, if there's going to be new m rated areas, i'm definitely considering a move, as i would like to have just a few things more than are allowed in the other areas.

I can't afford lifetime either, but I did switch over to Quarterly today. Which is like paying $15.50 a month with the land I've got atm. And my GF is going to just get the one-time $9.95 fee, so I might be able to buy more land and not be over my budget.

I have a slightly off topic question. When did LL send out these estimate emails? I have yet to see one. All I've seen is a couple of updates, but nothing specific.

All I've seen is a couple of updates, but nothing specific. In my case I've had to double my land holding to take advantage of the new system. What this means is that I was a casual lifer. It also means I won't have to hoard what little income I've had to pay for land and prim taxes. That means I'll be MORE likely rather than less to buy things in the new system. I really wish more people would think of the big picture. Even if the immediate effects on you are negative the accumulated change on the economy, especially with a larger user base might end up being better for everyone. If you want to lodge a protest that's fine (even if you don't really know what the outcome will be) but some people have posted dozens of messages already and I can't see where it is really serving any pupose. Your protests will mean more after the system has been in effect for a while and you can point to actuall differences rather than just speculation. |
