It does *not* pay for land. It *is* land, it *is* objects, It *is* lights.

and one day they are MY land objects and lights

From: someone
If you dont have a problem paying a tax on land/lights/objects - then why a problem paying on LB's? It's all the same thing.

This is a good point and there is no aswer except for...that's not how it works....cash in hand does not affect server load...therefore it is not what you said above...it is not land...it is not objects.....it is not lights...it's numbers....that are potential for me to use...do you see the difference? that "money" is "server space" that I have earned....does taht make sense? I didn't steal it....people paid me with it....

P.S. not ment as an attack - and Val, yes I know you give back to the community. But riddle me this.... If you see one person who is active and supportive of the community does that mean every single person you meet is going to be active and supportive?

best way to answer this is the same way you asked it....Just becuase you do not see what is given back to the community...does that mean it's not happening? who get's to be judge of how far someone has to go before they are "giving back"

and

does it matter whether everyone or no one "gives back"? you are talking about taxing everyone over a certain point regardless of whether they do or not right?

From: someone
I dont like the idea of paying taxes anymore than anyone else. But I think if a tax is needed, I dont deserve to be excluded just cause I dont like it.

that's the beauty of a game....it's NOT needed.....as we saw in the linden's solution....(you are probly gonna say now the sims will flood with stuff now.....if the sim's are taxed due to too many objects then that would stop people...(not the lack of money)...new sims can then be created and expanded into....(the real money you pay monthly pays for that not game money)

From: someone
Maybe it doesnt seem like we are going to need this tax right now. The Lindens say we dont. But come go live time - potentially thousands more will be joining us (maybe even many many thousands). Now is Linden Labs gonna say " Oh no, you cant buy our product! we have too many people"? of course not. They will try to get more servers up to handle the load. But what is a viable economy now - may not be enough when that time comes. If something like this could help to keep the economy in check - it's something that needs to be added *NOW* during the beta - not retrofitted later when the game is live.

LD doesn't buy sims....monthly fees do....as sims fill up people will stop building there just due to the lag issue....tehama has just about reached its limit i think and people are not really building there anymre......(it's an ugly solution, i agree, but it's better than putting a higher cost on success....makes people not want to succeed...(not just succeed by getting LD....but by building nice big things like the fair...or casino..)

Maybe a Bank would be a better way to go here.

At the moment people are just stuffing mattresses at home. With a bank the money would at least be back in the world again.
