I swear, the first book that came to mind when I read the question was "Lord of the Flies" .. then I realized that is because Im looking at the forums .. not SL itself.

So ... nevermind.

Funny. I thought of the development of the social structure in George Orwell's Animal Farm, myself.

:D

Exactly. Or the self-congratulatory illuminati in Eco's Foucault's Pendulum.

To this illustrious list, I would add:

"The Lathe of Heaven" by Le Guin
Almost anything by Raymond Carver
Nabakov's "Pnin" (Much like Toole's 'Confederacy')
Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury"--especially the Benji sections :)
Vonnegut's "Galapagos" and "Sirens of Titan"
Voltaire's "Candide" "Best of all possible worlds"
Kafka's "Metamorphisis"

"It took us that long to realize that a purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved." Vonnegut 'Sirens of Titan'

Haha, and as soon as you said that, I thought of that smarmy classic Stephen King horror flick, Children of the Corn.

I think all the good book title correlations have been mentioned, so I nominate Chicken Jane's Theme as our very own theme song.

Vonnegut's "Galapagos" and "Sirens of Titan"

Haven't read either of those, but bringing up Vonnegut, SL has a lot in common with Deadeye Dick.
