What do you think? will it solve the log in issues??? They don't even mention the log in issue in their release notes. I thought the whole purpose of this was to fix the log in issue. _____________________

* Fixed bug where idle/away from keyboard residents would not be logged out for inactivity. * The "Stop" button for animation steps in the new gesture window works again. * Land in estates can no longer be set for sale. * You cannot buy a parcel for L$0 unless you are the authorized buyer. * You cannot find a L$0 parcel in the directory unless you are the authorized buyer. * Find Places not longer shows land on non-visible islands/estates. * Text hovering over objects set with the LSL script command llSetText() now correctly wraps at 1000 pixels instead of 300. * Replaced the "nice snapshot" in the Library photo album. * Edit tools window now correctly remains minimized while walking. * Fixed a performance problem with certain QuickTime media streams. * Simulator crash recovery is more reliable. * Attachments save on teleport only if they have changed since the last teleport or login. Scripted attachments always save. This makes teleports faster and reduces the load on our central "asset server." * Internal changes to llGetNextEmail() reduce load on our central database where in here does it say * Fix Log in issue?????????????????????????????? Seems they are more concerned with making sure people who are gone too long are logged out instead of FIXING THE REAL PROBLEM OF THE LOG IN ISSUE _____________________

It won't

Read the things the upgrade will fix, log in is not one of them. I am getting to the point I want to scream when it takes 3 or 4 hours of tries to get in world only to crash if you tp anywhere. Or at best end up in the middle of nowhere and can't move. Why can these tech's fix this issue. What has changed that all of a sudden we can't log in. I think we deserve better support then this for a live paying online game.

I think a big piece is:
* Internal changes to llGetNextEmail() reduce load on our central database Granted, it doesn't say "login issue" but the log in issue was (as I understood it and i'm sure someone will correct if I'm wrong, hopefully someone with some ACTUAL knowledge and not just theories) a result of excessive load. _____________________

Easy there, buckaroo. It is related. I updated my previous message to explain.
Before hangin' them, let's see how it goes. _____________________

Excessive load.... Last time I checked it had to do with Inventory... Then another time a while back, Attachments. I hope you will forgive me for BEING SKEPTICAL _____________________

Login problems are symptoms of a bigger issue: Database server load. That is, we are having login problems because there is too much load on the central databease. Thus:
* Internal changes to llGetNextEmail() reduce load on our central database Will help in alleviating the login problems. If that is enough to fix all of the login problems remains to be seen. _____________________

Ok, something here is a bit unclear. At what point did inventory enter the login arena? I've been playing several months, and this is a pretty recent issue, for the most part. Is it impossible to put that particular item back whereverthehell it was before? Cuz it sure wasnt a prob a couple of months ago.

Phillip's explanation partly quoted here:
While we are trying to figure out the specific cause of the problems, the next patch (1.6.5) has some changes that MAY provide some temporary help. The big change is an improvement in the efficiency of the way we check email for scripts. There are currently thousands of scripted objects in SL which are checking for email a total of several hundred times per second. This was something that we didn't anticipate - content creators in SL are way overloading the system with these email checks, so we need to redesign for a better approach. Hopefully this will drop overall database login load, because profiling suggests that this call is where the database spends most of it's time. _____________________

All this hoopla is the reason I'm thinking of changing careers. I think I found a good opportunity right here

The ones I feel sorry for are the people who have real businesses. Like RL money businesses. For me, this is just a game and I can go play other games that I can log into. In fact I've quite got the fancy for Planetside again because of this.
LL, pay attention please even though I'm just one guy on a $15 a month subscription. Paying Player + inability to login = 1 less paying customer. Why am I so upset about this? Sure, you get these sorts of things in all online games, but then on top of everpresent lag issues, teleport issues etc etc, it just gets on my last nerve. It's an agravation I just plain don't need, not when being IN game is so laggy and slow anyway. To the people who say, "Relax, it's just a game" .... I agree, it is. It's a game I'm paying for that I cannot play. However, as you say, it is just a game - to me- and I can and will just go play another. There are people hoever, who see SL as a source of RL income. No Sir, to these people it's NOT a game. They deserve better and so do I. To those who say something like, "Don't be so upset about this small thing when there are starving people in blah blah blah" ... To these people I say, "Who gives a shit?" I got my OWN life thank you very much. My problems may be nothing compared to theirs, but so what? To me, that fact doesn't make my problems any less of a problem in my life. And guess what? I have a perfect right to be bothered by my problems. _____________________

It doesn't seem to fix the log in issue... I have downloaded the update, and I still can't log it....
All joking aside, I do wonder if this will fix the issue or not. I have the feeling that it may just be a temporary thing that will just have the problem reappear again in a few weeks/months if there is nothing major done with the system. I do have high hopes that this will help the problems, but it is a question of how long before 1.6.6 comes out, or will they wait to finish 1.7 first? _____________________

I pay a ton, Jennyfur and I both have bigger businesses than most. But you know what? This is the frickin' electronic frontier. The modern-era wild west. There are going to be bumps in the road. Did the people mining for gold while expanding west... the Boomers, the Sooners, that whole gang... complain about that lack of spotlessly clean bathrooms?
Whenever there's new tech, without a model to copy, there's going to be a certain degree of trial and error. Especially when the architects of this pioneering voyage are a young, small, exciting company. A monolithic company wouldn't be agile enough to pull it off. Is it perfect? No. Is it the best deal in town? By far. Do I get annoyed? Yes. Do I let it impact my RL? NO! -Flip _____________________

This is absolutely a band aid and the Lindens have said as much, but it buys time to come up with a more permanent solution. I'll take that over shutting down the grid for a month and replanning any time. -Flip _____________________
