Sadly, I'm not allowed to vote in US electiona. Along with most of the rest of the population of the world.
If we could, I expect the democrats would win. But that they would soon disappoint us.

How we could set about disentangling big business from your political system, I do not know, but it would have to be done. If it was in Africa, and it was tribes not companies, we would all be condemning it as corruption.

Oh whoops - another twelve enemies !
I bring it on myself - just can't keep my stupid mouth shut.

The Liberals, (which is what Canadians call the Conservative party), usually win in my area though, with the Conservative Party (what Canadians call the extreme right wing-nut party) usually finish last.

It seems to me that I read a while back that the majority (something like 90%) of the news outlets in Canada are owned by Liberal interests. Is there truth to that?

Anyone know what the percentage is in the U.S.? What about in terms of actual viewership? 50/50-sih?

I'm too lazy to look that crap up at the moment.

I'm not saying people don't have a mind of their own, but I'm certianly not above suggesting it.

Neither. They are two sides of the same shell game. The "party" that runs this country is the old money who hide behind their legal shields. You know these legal sheilds as "multi-national corporations" or "large corporations".

P.S. The very fact that you listed only Republican and Democrat shows how thoroughly brainwashed you are, like most of the U.S. populace. There are actually many many more political parties in the U.S. Unfortunately, our winner takes all system ensures that no other third party (or fourth or fifth) will EVER be able to wrest power from these two fronts for corporate money and the rich people who run the corporations.

I learned early in life that it's never a good idea to talk politics or religion. That's my motto now and I'm sticking to it! :D

The Monster Raving Loony Party sounds like something I would be interested in. Please send me info and ammo.

Yours Sincerely,

Rose.

Well, uh, I didn't vote cause you dont have independant? I assume you meant to put it considering the two parties on the list are American parties.

And just to be 100% correct, Liberterians should also be on the list.

Those reporting the news are vastly left leaning. Relative to the rest of the US population.

As far as ownership, which was more specifically your question, I'd like to see that information too. Although it's hard to calculate scientifically, I'd imagine. I suppose it could be done...

You don't have a Neither or Other column, if you did, I'd check it. As it stands, I am completely disgusted with both that you have listed above.

Yeah, what she said...

Thinking on it some, I don't know how much ownership of media really effects the liberal/conservative bias anyway. Two reasons:

1) Even IF (which isn't 100% certain) the owners of media corporations are conservative, this doens't matter. They may be somewhat concerned about political issues, however all of that is overridden by their desire to increase profits. I think that drives the news moreso than bias.

2) Anyone with major interest (ownership etc) of the media doesn't--and can't--micromanage the exact wording and "slant" of every news story that is put out there. Bias is snuck into news stories as activist journalists inject their opinions or even choose their language in a way that they like, rather than choosing their words in a way that remains neutral.

I don't know if this was based on a poll or not, but I heard somewhere that most journalists cite their reason for going into the industry as "to make a difference", and not to "inform, educate, and get the news out to people". Obviously it's a problem if you have activists as your news reporters.

My affiliation is neither. I've always been registered Libertarian, and am a card carrying member of that party.

Yes, I do believe they have a couple of borough councillors. Their day will come! :)

I'm a registered Republican. I am more libertarian in my views and my political ideals. I usually vote Republican because the 3rd party options are lacking in Illinois and I hate the DNC and firmly believe the DNC is a pack of racist in sheeps clothing.

Interesting. I wonder if that's why liberals have lost so much ground (too much time focused on representation rather than ownership)?
It seems like, in the past, they spent a lot of time concerned with what language is used and how social groups are represented rather than focusing on more tangible (and in my mind, immediately important) issues like who's holding all the important properties and the money on the monopoly board. Both representation and ownership are important, of course, but an owner can always fire everyone else. Plus, the internet is de-emphasizing the importance of traditional representational sources like the 6 o'clock news --so traditional representation is a somewhat weakened weapon of influence at the moment (in my mind).

It's just conjecture though...maybe the liberals really did spend a lot of time on ownership too and just represented themselves as focusing on representation. I guess there's no way to really know without looking at the owners of all the big corporate power players.

All this being serious is annoying now. Time to go kill some kittens :D
