In light of recent dubious claims that people are using alts to further agendas, I think a poll is in order..
Do you use alts to further your business or personal image?
By "use", I mean argue with yourself, prop up your side of a debate, stroke your main account's ego, etc.

The irony to me in this poll - is that folks answering 'Yes' - could use many of their alts to vote 'Yes' as well.
Thus eventually skewing the poll in the 'Yes' direction  Common sense tells me that the vast majority of folks post with one account, a few post with several accounts - but with benign motivations - and an even smaller few post with several accounts for exploitative purposes. Either way, I've got a chunk of rawhide here that seems to be much more captivating to me than the forums are today  _____________________

I don't post with my 1 alt. I also don't socialize in world with it.
I don't roleplay a persona in world or on the forums; I don't post just to see my own name; I don't start shit just for the sake of starting it.. so I don't see the need to use alts in that way. If you're too much of a coward to stand behind what you say, then don't say it. _____________________

I use one alt as the financial account for my inworld business and another (collectively all three) for land holding benefits. I use either of the other two to escape the IMs, etc. once in awhile. Introverts unite!

sort of.. i do use an alt to further an agenda, but not as some may think.
as you all know, The Quirk is the.. hmm.. more raw side of "me". in this sense, "me" refers not to Cybin, but to me the RL person. i use The Quirk when i want to have fun or don't want to think too much about things. i don't use him to any means that could be construed as negative. he is who he is, if someone is being role-played, it's him. i, Cybin, am not being role-played.. i am who i am in RL, mostly. Cybin probably seems a bit wiser (if that's the right word) than i am, but he's not being role-played. rather i've split me into two.. Cybin and The Quirk. the serious, thoughtful and concerned me as compared to the loud, silly and "edgy" me. of course, there's a second alt, but she hasn't been around in a loooong time. she was made to try out the female form, because well.. i didn't think Cybin would do well to walk around looking like a female. but i haven't felt the need to bring her around really, so.. *shrug* so yes, i use The Quirk to further an agenda.. and that agenda is fun. another "agenda" is SL:UT. The Quirk is in charge of that, because that's his thing. Cybin isn't really a SL:UT type of guy.. although he might keep an ish inthe bathroom next to the Weekly World News. _____________________

i voted "no".. because, well.. i don't.
i have no alts.. possibly due to the fact that i am one, but whatever. i serve no "agenda", i just have fun. i thank Cybin for giving me control of SL:UT.. granted, i'm moving as fast on that as he does on his buildings.. LOL. (go finish something, Cybin!! hee hee) but let's get something straight.. i never would serve any evil purposes. i wouldn't try to undermine the government, grief a town hall or try to ruin someone's rep. although, you never know who's going to show up in the magazine.. if i get it started that is. but ya.. i'm just me, running around having fun.. with scissors! ha! (that's the difference between Cybina nd i.. he'd tell me "put those own before you hurt someone".. i'd say "i want a bigger pair.. and more, some for each hand.. and i'll close my eyes too!" |
