I have paint shop pro but I have generaly worked in jpeg or bmp formats in the past. Does anyone know were I can find a good tutorial on .tga formats and utilizing the Alpha channel to create things in the game.

Also does anyone have a copy of the original meshes for the head body hair and legs. I seem to have lost mine somewhere.

you can get the most current meshes from the download section of the SL site, and bp has a alpha channel tutorial in this thread it is a zip file about half way down.

edit- ack, well his is for photoshop... and shebang's isn't up... well maybe it can get you going in the right direction.

I knocked out this tutorial for you real quick. Hopefully it'll help you out.

http://www.dopedesign.com/tutorials/pspalpha_opacity/

This method is better for images that have very clearly defined outlines. So this one won't work so well on things with a lot of glow or blur on their edges. (I'm putting together another tutorial which is better suited to that method right now).

:D

And here's the second one, for blurry/glowing images such as fire, smoke, lighting effects, etc.

Deeblue, I clicked the link but for some reason it keeps saying site not found. Could you possibly email me a copy of it to ShadowWulf2002sim@yahoo.com Id appreciat it because this is prolly the one that I would use more often.

The first one went off without a hitch so far I am having a blast with it.

Thanks again

ShadowWeaver....

P.S. I will stop by ingame soon as I get my house Shell Completed and the appropriate textures on it.

Shadow,

For some reason my web server went down. Yay! It should be back up soon once the support goons get my email :D

I'd email the stuff but I put it together on my work machine and I won't be back in there until Monday.

Deeblue I truly do appreciate the tutorials. However I do have another question. Based on the information given these were drawn on the the new file created what does one do when they have an existing graphic that they need to create into a .tga say a .jpg that they have to edit prior to making into one.

The reason I am asking this is I went through a long and Lengthy process of trying to figure out how to combine the layers to one to create the .tga file when I was making my shirt.

I had to do as follows but if you have a faster method Please Please let me know cause I dont want to have to go through this again.

In PSP 7 I had to

1 Open the two graphics I wanted for the new one.
2 Create the new one.
3 Copy each graphic in as a new layer to edit.
4 upon editing combined the two layers that the two graphics were on.
5 re-edit due to it created a white field when I combined the layers (also had to hard edge the eraser tool so that it would close crop into the images due to auto selection was buffering it 3 to 4 pixels.)
6 Delete the original transparent layer.
7 then I was able to go through the steps in your first tutorial to make it a viable graphic for the game.

So again do you know if there is a better method or am I stuck doing it that way to make the images more presentable.

Again I truly do appreciate the tutorials that you gave on this they were a tremendious help to me.

Sincerely, ShadowWeaver

Shadow, I plan on putting a handful of other tutorials together quite soon. I haven't really had a chance to get in SL for a few nights since I've been doing some freelance work in my spare time. (That's why I haven't replied until now).

The methods for making more complex textures really depend on what you're trying to achieve. The methods can be very different for making building textures, or clothing textures, etc.

There are some good templates available for download on the SL website though, they can guide you in creating your own clothing. Best part is they have all the layers still preserved in them.

I'll try to put some more tutorials together pretty soon. If you could tell me exactly what were you creating that would help too.
