I'm having difficulty making a texture with any amount of transparency to it. I've tried making a tattoo only to come up with a white tat on a black shirt or black tat on a white shirt. I've tried making the alpha channel black, white, and leaving it as is and still nothing.
Any help would be great,
Thank you

which graphics program do you use? specific details are easier to give when the program is known.

the alpha channel should be white where the tatoo is and black everywhere else. then save as 32-bit tga. /8/f1/34/1.html

WinGimp makes texture creation with alpha bits pretty easy, and as an added bonus, it's free. http://www.wingimp.org/Being free, it's a bit tricky to install, but it's worth it.

24 bit works too

Paint Shop Pro only goes as high as 24 bit, but my alpha-channeled TGA's are properly transparent in the game.

update Photoshop 7.0 to 7.0.1 to fix transparency problem with .tga files
01-29-2003 14:54
Adobe changed the way Photoshop 7.0 handles the alpha/transparency channel for .tga files, then changed it back for v. 7.0.1. Updating your version of PS will probably fix your difficulties. Go here for the free upgrade: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/2c21a.htm -Xenon

gimp tutorial, anyone?
02-18-2003 10:07
Any of y'all who use the gimp, would you be willing to create a step by step tutorial (with screencaps!) for it? I'd like to place it next to the PS and PSP tutorials -- the author (or authors, if a collaberation) would receive full credit on its page.
