My husband played EQ and EQII. I got on his characters all the time to try to level him up.
EQ was pretty good except it was like a ghost town. I think there has been a recent surge in people going to the game again. Of course this happens after we cancel the subscriptions. Speaking of which, we had to answer 56475 questions before we could get that account cancelled. Ok I exaggerated..it was at least 56k though. ![]() |

I like Everquest II. It addresses what I thought were major problems with Everquest, such as a focus on grouping and an excess of spawn camping for kewl lewt.

Do you mean a focus on grouping as in there being one? Everquest 2 is worse than EQ1 in that respect. You can't do anything without being in a group.

You can in the lower levels (can't speak to the upper levels yet). You can't do everything alone, but you can do enough to stay occupied. They seem to be expanding opportunities to solo with recent updates, a trend I hope continues. Of course, some of the most rewarding and interesting content is off-limits for soloists, but I've found that to be true of all MMORPGs. |

You can't do anything without being in a group. Of course, some of the most rewarding and interesting content is off-limits for soloists, but I've found that to be true of all MMORPGs. Guild Wars addresses this by offering NPC henchmen you can group with. While they arent as good as the real thing, you arent stuck with no options. I have "solo'd" quite alot with them with few issues, whereas while playing EQ I often found myself stuck, waiting, asking, wanting a group and logging when I couldnt find one. Worse yet was grouping, losing everything when they bailed and then spending hours trying to get back to get my stuff. Guild Wars is ok but it is missing allot. I'm curious what you think GW is missing? I personally like it because it addresses many issues in other MMORPGs _____________________

I mean even with the 4 haunch you still need 3 more people. I'm curious what you think GW is missing? I personally like it because it addresses many issues in other MMORPGs I use to play UO when it first came out. I liked the mining and blacksmithing. EverQuest has Crafting. Guild Wars all you do is go out and kill Char. That reminds me of D&D, I gave up D&D table top for White Wolf’s World of Darkness because I wanted more then, “You meet at a In………….You go in to the cave and find 4 bolrgs, role inish” I want more then what GW has to offer now. Also the lack of races. I liked in UO the Skills were king not Classes. GW classes are king. _____________________

As I've said in a couple of threads along the lines of mmorpgs, I am an evercrackII addict.
I've been playing since December, it essentially killed my secondlife. I love the graphics the panaroma of the world. It has that Elder Scrolls: Morrowind feel with the ability to socialize. I love the customization of the races...where if you run into someone that looks like they may not quite ..., I've had no trouble finding groups when I needed them. Of course I have too many characters but they've all allowed me to explore my interests. I have a lvl 20 warden high elf, lvl 20 Dirge wood elf, lvl20 Swashbuckler Ratonga, lvl 23 Mystic High Elf, lvl 24 Conjuror erudite, lvl 22 Templar high elf, lvl 15 Ratonga Wizard/Warlock I just find that I can immerse myself into the characters and actually find myself role playing and that each one of these characters are a facet of my personality fantasy-wise. I play GW and it just doesn't feel the same, maybe the maturity level of the population is what makes it feel different, while free is much easier on my pocket book it's worth it to me to enjoy grouping with a more mature or responsible group than to be frustrated with kids who all want to be warriors when they've picked a healing class. Now if only Bethesda would make Oblivion mulitplayer even if it was just private server direct connection I would be in HEAVEN and probably lose all touch with reality. _____________________

I played Everquest for 6 years. Tried EQ2, but I prefer content over graphics, so EQ1 still has not lost it's luster. Recent server merges have brought population levels up where grouping and flagging is still the same as usual. Mass group buffs occur regularly at the bank in PoK, and there are plenty of places to hunt.
It's no cake-walk though, even though I leveled my necromancer to 61 in 32 days /played, while soloing. I log into both SL and EQ at the same time, often. _____________________

Have you all found that you are getting more casual players due to the Station Pass?
The Matrix Online has just been bought by Sony and will be added to the pass in a couple of months. Since I already play SWG, I will get the pass then. When I get it, I thought I would try out EQ and EQII, since I have never played them before. I am hoping that MxO will get some curiousity seekers once it is added to the pass. _____________________

I tried Guild Wars for awhile, but could never get into it for some reason - it feels too disjointed to me for some reason. I have to admit I like Everquest II a lot though. While I prefer World of Warcraft, EQ2 has a lot of appeal to me and I have been playing it more and more for some variety. I do miss WoW's seamless world, but EQ2 still does a fairly good job with immersion. I hated the first EQ, but I am enjoying EQ2 immensely. I tend to solo most of the time, and so far it has served me well. The one time I needed a group, I had no trouble finding someone to join. It all comes down to personal taste, I suppose. I find WoW more addictive, but I think EQ2 is deeper in some ways.

I've played most of the MMORPG's out there. Played EQ for 3 years before 'giving up' a few months ago. I must say, out of all the MMORPGs I've played, EQ had the best 'feeling'. Followed by WoW and Phantasy Star Online I do miss the glory days, but I am much happier here, in my Second Life. Guild Wars was fun...for awhile. I was part of the first ever beta, and I went on with three more open beta. It got worse after the first time. I don't think I'll be picking up any more MMO games for awhile. They all seem to be rehashed, sadly. I would like to try DarkLife, but I feel there isn't much to do on there...Maybe once DarkLife 2 comes out.

EQ was fun when there wasn't massive item inflation, money duping, and rampant over-camping. Then it became fun for a little while when Planes of Power came out with cool raid zones. Then it pretty much sucked again because 15 year olds wind up leading guilds and having temper tantrums when people aren't as OCD as them and have 4000 hours a week free to fight the same monster over and over and over.
No thanks. 3 years was enough for me ![]() _____________________

Well EQ1 has a free download and a free 7 day limited trial. I think I will try it out and see. If I like it on the 6th I will buy my self a birthday present of EQ2. Happy Birthday me. If I don’t I will maybe go back to UO and see if the new upgrades are as bad as what I have been told. The crafting sounds good. I have one friend who I play GW and SL with now and we got GW for the fantasy type game and he is the one pushing to go EQ. He played the PS2 version of it and liked it but has been off for a long time now. So I have a person to group with now. All we need to do is get a few friends in there and we will be set…….I hope. I don’t know if I will give up on GW yet. The fact is it’s not all that. To much on the idea of battling and no RP. If Nisa Stravinsky is right and it’s like Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind I will love it. I also agree that Bethesda should make a MMO for there Elder Scroll game series. I can’t wait to see how Oblivion is. It would even be great if you could bring your Morrowind charters in to the online game maybe with a ½ cut in skills or something like that. Just a dream.

I tried EQ2 when it first came out and wasn't impressed with the gameplay even though the graphics were great. I might try it out again in a month or so. Played Guild Wars off and on and it seems to have a lot of kids in it, I guees thats what you get with no subscription fee.
Got a little bored with playing WOW, So I'm taking a break from it. I'm thinking of trying Star Wars Galaxies again since they've changed the combat system. Might even try Horizons again, I've read that its changed a lot since its launch. I might just hold off on trying any old MMORPGs and wait for Auto Assault and Dungeons & Dragons online since they are suppose to come out on 8/1/05 |

This is true most of them have no idea of stradagy and then when doing a PvP and you face a Korean Team (most of them are Militarty it seams) they kill us. Only Real picky teams can go in and win and seeing I am not friends with any of them I am stuck with who ever will let me in to there party. Mostly kids. ![]() Got a little bored with playing WOW, So I'm taking a break from it. I'm thinking of trying Star Wars Galaxies again since they've changed the combat system. That is the big problem with Guild Wars that I see. _____________________

If you wind up getting it I've listed all my chars on the Lavastorm Server so look me up! PS: I'm in two guilds...one is called Heirs to Hallowthrone..no open enrollment as of yet, if I inherit then I'll hopefully have people that will want to join...the other is Zehn Kelglen??? Whatever German is for Ten Pins....they're looking for more members, very friendly and will help you with any quest - they have a "bowling night" ever thursday where the guild queues up and completes quests requiring big groups. Great folks. Guild Leader is Wulflok on Lavastorm . Ok thats it for shameless plug. _____________________

Played EQ for quite a few years on Bristlebane, had a lot of fun but now the graphics hurt my eyes, headache after ~30 minutes. They really are trying too hard to make things look 'neat' and it ends up looking horrid. Shame too, I kinda miss my guild.
WoW I like, since the graphics are smoother, it's much easier on me. At current, I've been playing a rather small space combat MMO called Dark Space, which is about to release a revamp to the ships within the next weekish. Right now one of the three factions completely dominates, but the map will be reset when the revamp is released. _____________________

It's subjective Lupo, really - I have tried GW, WoW & EQII (missed eq). I keep coming back to EQII - the graphics, the effects the people on my server...all wonderful. Last night I did my Betrayal of Freeport - Got executed - can't beat that with a stick.
Every game is going to have a grind and high points. For me it's the eyecandy of EQII and the fact that it reminds me of a mmo Morrowind. Try the Trial of the Isle. You'll at least see the graphics though you won't really get the feel for the game. I wish they had picked something different and prettier to use for their trial. But, I guess using the Isle at least preps you for the real "world" of Norrath if you decide to upgrade. If you decide to do the trial let me know and choose Lavastorm for your server I have a character parked on the Isle to help my friends that decide to cross over to Norrath. _____________________

I would take you up on it if he had not gone over there. I tried to get him to change he will not. So that is it. _____________________

I might just hold off on trying any old MMORPGs and wait for Auto Assault and Dungeons & Dragons online since they are suppose to come out on 8/1/05 Looks like those won't be out on that date, but I did get an invite to the Auto Assault beta ![]() If at all possible I would like for someone to see if my character I had in Everquest 2 is still there. I have read that characters haven't been deleted by Sony, even though I haven't been in EQ II since its launch back in November. If true I might try it again this week, since I have most of the week off. Thanks. Edav on the Oasis server |
