Personally I like powerful (rather than "joyous" music that evokes feelings of glory and imagery of battle.
"Dies Irae" from Verdi's Requiem is the perfect example of what I love, and so is "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" from Orff's Carmina Burana.
Non-trivial recommendations along that line... "One Winged Angel" and "Liberi Fatali" by Nobuo Uematsu.

Hehe I did this one season for each of my softball teammates. I had each person pick a song and I cut it down to a 30 sec intro. As they step up to the plate, their song starts.
