So if you don't get a reply from me in a while while in IM's, its not because I'm slow... it means my short attention span has taken over and I've wandered away.

I hear ya. Answer phone, wc break, smoke, hydration, dog....by the time I've gotten back on track, I realize I left someone hangin' 30-45 minutes ago. Never intended to be afk more than a minute or two.

Why the disbelief? Unlike IQ, typing speed and accuracy is a skill which is intrinsically linked to technological aptitude. Those people who use computers regularly are more likely than not to develop typing skills which are better than normal. Since Second Life is, in many regards, caters to highly developed technical users, it is not surprising that you would see a higher incidence of proficient/skilled typists here.

If you attended some sort of Mensa bash, you'd not act surprised when "everyone" you met had an above-average IQ, would you?
Well I wasn't trying to be a snob or anything, I only type about 60 WPM myself. I was just having some fun by pointing out the all to human quality of exaggeration. :)

I think Second Life probably *does* have an abundance of good typers as well as a higher than average amount of geniuses for sure. It's only natural considering what you said, and the fact that the original setup in SL actually encouraged genius (as opposed to the fun seekers you see lately).

That being said though, I work in computers also, and also type all day and I am also (slightly) smarter than average. That experience leads me to the conclusion that there may still a lot of exaggeration going on. Almost every tech person I ever worked with for instance was a two finger typer, and you just cant get those speeds that way.

I would add that if there are that many fast typers, it kind of fits into my (contrarian) theory that SL is actually full of mostly RL women (rather than the oft quoted other way around). The only folks I work with who can actually type with all the proper fingers and acheive those kinds of speeds are the secretaries and administrative assistants, i.e. - the girls.

;)
