overly-concerned mothers everywhere admonishing kids to quit playing games... you'll have a heart attack!!

did you catch the bit about how that guy still lived at home? of course, much more common in other cultures than usually seen around america, but still kinda funny - fifty, lives at home, and his mom even called him to come home!!

if that happened to me, death would probably be the preferable option... :)

I can only be on for a few hours at a time before wanting to get off. Trying for 50? my god. i couldn't even be able to comprehend.

No game is worth quitting a job over either.

The man was 28, not fifty.. he played for fifty hours.

Many men are quite happy with that arrangement, and would gladly pass up a chance to grow up in order to remain in that "comfort zone." (edited) *Looks back*

Isn't that alot like kicking poor people out of the Fortune 500? :D

In, out, does it matter? I seriously doubt that anyone who played a game to their death could actually NOT be a virgin.

How could 50 hours of sitting on your ass kill you? I mean seriously. He had to have a weak heart already, or hell I would have been dead years ago. Sensational Journalism at its most boring.

I think a more interesting note from the story is that there was a make shift bed in the cafe. Also, how much does it cost per hours to be in a Cafe?

Or maybe he was doing coke or something else to stay awke? if he was getting up to go to the bathroom, he was moving enough to probably not have DVT. Due to some past extensive travel schedules I have been in emergency more than once becuase it was suspected I had DVT, but it takes a lot of non movement and some other symptoms. He would have noticed the massive swell, well, hopefully he would have.

Sleep deprivation will cause heart arrythmias. By sleep deprivation I don't mean not sleeping "enough" each night. Staying awake long enough will shut you down. It wasn't what he was doing. It's what he wasn't doing.

thought i'd read that he was also (coincidentally) fifty... geez, he really must've not gotten any exercise, like, at all. then again, when kids are dropping dead at disneyworld...

coke? i doubt that - friend of mine works over there, and says that the drug penalties are even stiffer than america. (and, gee, taking cokebreaks would've just interrupted the dude's gameplay...:)

p.s. hehee and sorry; i didn't mean to slur anyone who might have a very nice living-with-folks arrangment. :)

Reminds me of the book, "Infinite Jest," in which there's a plot thread that involves Quebecois separatist terrorists unleashing a video that is such perfect entertainment that those watching can never stop and end up entertaining themselves to death.

Seemed pretty farfetched when I read it, but lo and behold.
