Did I just get ripped off, or was this a fair transaction?

I would be happy to try your answer your question but what you presented makes no sense at all. Can you condense it to a few sentences?

that's about $6.35 a meter which sounds like a fair price to me. You definitely didn't get ripped off :)

That's a lot better. I just sold my first land for $2500. You made out like a bandit.

Why does one sell one's first land? I'm thinking about getting a premium membership, and I know I'll get first land with that.

What is the best thing to do with it, and why?

I did a lot of things with my first land. I lived there until I bought more land and had a better house built on the new land. Then I loaned out my first land for free to newbs needing a place to live. Eventually I moved all the newbs to my new land and moved elsewhere and built my first shop on the first land. When I bought more land for my shop I moved the newbs (who were no longer new) back to my second land.

I eventually needed more third land so I sold my first land in able to afford this. If this sounds confusing you ought to try doing it!

You sell your first land because you buy it well below market value and the resulting flip is significant. It's the easiest and quickest way to make real estate cash in SL. In this case, someone paid L$512 for their plot and sold it for L$3250.

Profit: L$2738.

Your best bet is to grab first land in a Mature sim, since the land value is greater in these (at least, it used to be. is it still?).

Yes, it's much higher.

Unless you find first land on a telehub or waterfront or really fantastic view with 3 corners of Linden land nearby or something, it's probably better to sell it. $3500 is about the average price for mature in a lot of areas but you can find it for even more some places. It's not a ripoff at all if that was indeed first land being sold.

$3,250L for 512 Mature first land... fair deal there on both sides. If anything you got the better deal. First land isn't desirable for resale except for a prim lot. Most don't want to be stuck beside a bunch of noobs, no offense, practicing their bad builds etc.

Hope this helps make you feel better. You made a good deal.

*sniffs* I smelled the alt last night, I smell the alt today.

I built the fence...and???

A friend asked me to put it the fence up. They wanted privacy. *yeah I know about camera controls but its what he wanted around his lot*. The fence went higher as you went higher in the air. You posted here that you were scripting but never once did you say that or even suggest to it. Chat log proves it.

He contacted you, asked you to sell, you sold...HIGHER than what you paid. So why do you think you got ripped off?

The lattice was making it hard to script? Couldn't have been the 6 or 7 scripts you had there already, could it? Or maybe the big waterfall that is there? nah that wouldn't be a problem in the least. *rolls eyes*

And lets see, as you posted in your chat log, you found another piece of land. So why was it you continued to stay there, sitting on top of someone else's house, when you were just innocently scripting? Maybe because you weren't?

I would say you got a fair deal. You might have sold it for more if you wanted to wait( it was on the beach which increases value) but a fast nickle is almost as good as a slow dime. You replaced it with a lot of your choice.. Sounds like everyone made out fine.

good sale

You got a fair price.

IMy first land was sold to my neibour, who offered 6K for it. I took 4K.

I then purchased 1024 of land for 1.8K I sold for 2K. depends on where your first land was.

Coco,

In response to your query, "why do you sell your first land?" I sold mine, not because I didn't want it, but because everyone around me sold theirs to someone slapping up a big black box, and calling it a club. So, eyesore combined with severe lag due to the scripts that invariably come with a club.

Was enough to send me screaming to a quieter area, established as residential before I moved in.

First land
06-06-2005 15:08
It would appear then that I got really really really lucky with my first land oh so many months ago.

It was in a mature sim.
It was about 30m from a hub.
Everyone around me that had started out residences, started building or selling their land to stores.
I priced it ridiculously high.
I came by one day in an alt to find that someone else had built on my land and Lo and Behold my land sold!
I never expected to get my asking price, I figured it for a negotiating jumping off place, just so you know, but that 15,000 L came in handy buying more land.

2 times I have seen 512's go for 15k L, but not in about 5 months or so. The second time someone wanted to tick off the folks that faced the piece (it was prim land facing a club). The club owner thought we were nuts pricing it that way but we figured, if we're going to lose the prims, let's make it profitable. Oh, that wasn't a noobie 512, we paid about 5k for it, so we only (ha) made 10K on the second deal.

The real reason to GET a 512, is to have a home, have fun making waterfalls and unihabitable houses, tearing them down and twisting prims and all of that. It's for fun.

So the price you got seems fair by current market prices, as everyone's said.

psst we're supposed to be having fun in here folks!

The sad thing about this is that you were trying to be an irritant and you know it.
I have no malice intentions towards you or anyone else in secondlife and went out
of my way to pay you what I called a fair price. Hope you enjoy the game and practice
better community relations.

Your price was indeed very fair. What about this "30 m lattice fence" that he describes, though?

A fence on my land to keep from seeing an unwanted person looking at me and my company or my wife relaxing...unreasonable?...he is just leaving out details. No matter but thx for the question.

I don't understand why a lattice fence on a neighboring parcel would make scripting difficult.

Yes, I was wondering about that, too. My neighbor's wall has gotten in my camera's way a couple of times when I was flying home in a vehicle, but it's never stopped me from working on my own place.

It wouldn't and it didn't. If he would have said, hey I am just scripting. Not once did he say it. So, at first, the fence was going to be 10m..normal fence. Then he proceeded to go higher to irritate, so the fence went higher.

And I might add, considering he is a "newbie"...wow I didnt know what a prim was for the first week I started SL, much less the height of one. not to mention trying to script? For being less than a week old, someone sure is gung-ho. *rolls eyes*
