Thats right, while looking through my October 2005 edition I spotted a short mention of Secondlife in Playboy on page 80.
"Some of the most interesting simulators just give players an empty canvas and stand back. SecondLife (Linden Lab, Mac, PC) lets you create a virtual person, then live life online with thousands of other people's creations. Open-ended tools let users make nearly anything - from homes that mimic the effects of schizophrenia to schools of autonomous fish and theaters that stream real-wrold indie films."
As for what I was doing reading article in playboy *glances around with shifty eyes*... my cable was out! I swear it was!
edit - ummm, it was shitzophrenia... that was a typo on my part.... wooooops!

ummm, they weren't calling it shitzophrenia... I was... mostly because I'm a dufus who can't spell, but probably partly because I thought it would be funny somewhere in my subconcious

There was also an article in Computer Games Magazine for October in which a few paragraphs deal with SL.
The article is about folks with Asperger's and the like, finding virtual communities as good place to shed some inhibitions.
I regularly read all the major gaming mags, and this was the longest, most in depth reference to SL I have seen to date...
Good to see SL getting some broad spectrum coverage!

From: AJ DaSilva We have those? Where? I wanna see! Look for the Virtual Hallucination house. It's been fairly well documented. BTW, I'm surprised that Playboy didn't mention anything about "mature areas" or "AV sex".

From: AJ DaSilva I don't get it... Joke is, okeydoke, for autism... there is a spectrum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_spectrum I think the name of the person mentioned in the article Nolan mentioned is Lili Luk (spelling?), who has Asperger's Syndrome, which is on the autism spectrum. Psst I did Virtual Hallucinations long ago (glad it's still around) and never got my L$100 from Nash Baldwin. Little bit of SL trivia!

Ahh. Makes sense now. Don't know if I should admit this, but am I wrong for one of the first thoughts when I read the list of behavioral traits for autism and realise I seem to exhibit (from my own observations) about 3/4 of them being "I wonder if I can claim any benefit"?

Considering it was really 1994 before true research into Autism became a "reality", and the fact that many adults are now finding out that their "quirks" seem to now have a vaild explanation. And as a mother of an autistic child. I'd say, nah. You may actually not be crazy and be onto something that could explain some behavioral aspects of yourself.

I guess Playboy's quite a good place for SL to be mentioned, considering how all the girls seem to be based on the same standard model, the same way as avies.

AJ, http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html Mind you, just because you exhibit some of the traits, doesn't mean you have AS. I exhibit some of the traits, but in fact got an extremely low score on the test (9). My grandson, who has AS, scored 42.

Am I the only one who was expecting mention of a "Women Of SecondLife" special feature? Actually -- anyone wanna put down some L$ that Playboy is in-world and soliciting models for such a thing within, oh, two years? Jess
