http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,164089,00.html From: someone SYDNEY, Australia — Australian officials effectively banned the computer game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" and ordered it removed from stores Friday because it contains hidden sex scenes that can be viewed with a special Internet download. Heavens forbid. You could actually have avie sex in a freakin' computer game. That's like ... dangerous! If they want to make this The Most Popular Game in History, just keep banning it.

With so few people reading books these days we should feel lucky we found SOMETHING to burn!

How can a hidden code get a game banned, and a flagrant T&A game like Leisure Suit Larry stays on the shelves?
This is what we call hysteria.

I am still not over what they did to Tina Turner.

would like to say bye and *hugs* to all the Austrailians just in case they are banned by their government from Second Life.
Oh - would like to say good bye and *hugs* to everyone else in case the rest of the world loses touch with reality.

What would happen to a game where user mods have turned it into a sex game? I can tell you -- morons like Jack Thompson will go apeshit trying to "campaign for decency". (See recent issues of the SL Herald if you don't know what a stink Thompson's been raising over the Sims 2 nude mods). Horrors! Nudity. Like, you know, nobody's ever been naked before. With all the wars and murder and nastiness in the world, there's always time for censorship.

Well, truth be told....I do have a tinge of annoyance at Rockstar Games. This isn't a mod, as I understand it. It's actually coded in the game, but inactive. Most likely it was something a developer put in to amuse themselves, then forgot to take out after they deactivated it. Sloppy programming habits coupled with a lack of professionalism equals a gaming industry firestorm.

That game is about killing and blowing people up and they are worried about the consensual interactive sex scenes ina game that has a M rating ... weird. if they are upset about the fact that M is 17+ --- well then they should look at the rating system not the game.

This just proves the bizarre double standard they have with violence vs sex.The game contains graphic violence, including killing police officers, carjackings, drive by shootings, and home invasion robberies. None of this gave them pause - but a sex scene is enough to get the game banned.

None of this gave them pause - but a sex scene is enough to get the game banned. My thoughts exactly Cristiano. I played the first GTA, and you could also beat up prostitutes in the street, run over people, murder at your leisure (as long as you could run fast) ... now, if an adult wants to RP a criminal who cares. (I happen to think the Sopranos was one of the best TV series in the last several years.) But if you're going to go on a crusade, let's think a minute about priorities. I love the attitude of most of my Euro friends, who believe that sex and nudity just aren't that big of a deal. And I'm not so sure our own attitudes aren't tied to the fact that we have a horrific violent crime rate here.

I'm in favor of an X-rated version of anything. But I dunno, Aimee.... when I think Moses, I think Charlton Heston. And I do *not* want to see him nekkies. Consenting adult or not, I'm just not into that. mmkay?

For once, Scott Kurtz said it well... "It's okay if we shoot a hooker in the face but it's not okay if we bang the chick?" ( PVP Online 2005/07/28) AFAIK it is possibly to unlock the minigame without even a hack on at least one platform (the one that seems to keep being mentioned in the PS2). Were I an optimist I would say the real problem is that they mislead (accidentally or intentionally) ESRB about the content of the game. However, not being one, I rather suspect it's just another Boobiegate...

Maybe this warrents its own thread, but... Game Mods Scruitinized Looks like the modding community needs to batten down the hatches. I just hope we're too small to register on the radar.

I just hope we're too small to register on the radar. Now we're getting into free speech areas. If I couldn't have modded Morrowind, I would probably NEVER have bought it, and I certainly wouldn't have played it as long. Same for Neverwinter Nights. It's my computer, dammit. No children are going to be exposed to nekkie boobs (much less napalmed villages). Keep the government out of my computer room!

We can, however, still say 'fuck' on TV after 9 and show full frontal nudity after 11...
I think its the same knee jerk reaction that had 'A Clockwork Orange' banned for a number of years...
One religious group also had the movie 'Caligula' yanked from theatres in the 80's - the result was it turned out to be one of the most popular movies ever shown there ever..
Whats gonna happen is they will just mail order it or get it from Singapore - sales will boom and life will continue... no matter what morals the Govt tries to force down our throats - we're talking about a people who use the 'C' word to refer to inanimate objects...
We ain't couth, and B.B. Howard can't change us - no matter how much he'd like to.. I think secretly he wishes he was a 'true Australian' like the rest of us.
(even though I live and work in Las Vegas, I still count myself as Australian as vegemite and Victoria Bitter).
