Okay.. today sucks

1. I just got fired.
2. My girlfriend sided with my boss over a dispute involving a $1,000,000 fine we face if we do not implement a solution tout d'suite (sp?)
3. End of relationship with gf. Choose boss or me (esp at a part time job as this was) end of relationship despite its nearly ten year history of goodtimes!
4. Car blew a hole in the muffler... three blocks down the road, cop pulls me over and gave me what is likely to be a $180 ticket
5. I checked my mail today and got another rejection letter from a textbook publisher... "We regret to inform you that BECAUSE you don't have "piled higher and deeper" (PhD) appended to your name, we cannot consider your textbook. Should you acquire such, please contact us in the future."
6. More mail - 13th rejection letter from pulp fiction publisher
7. Mom's just been told her kideny function is below 30%
8. Dad, a teetotaller, on hearing #7, called me and told me that he was going to get drunk tonight. I have never heard of him saying anything along those lines in my entire life. And there's not a damn thing I can do for either one of them.
9. I got another flyby neg... wait, that was a highlight.
10. I got a notice of a bounced check - my balance for that account was just verified in the 4 figure range. Go figure... This is gonna cost me time and aggravation to straighten out.

I'm not saying it will completely change your life for the better, but have you considered voting Democrat this year?

What would a half-orc do? Sorry Korg! I had a year where my partner of nine years left, I couldn't afford to keep the house I loved by myself so I had to sell it - I moved into a tiny place and lived among my boxes for months on end. My mother died in the middle of all of this. Life sucks and then it suddenly gets better. That's the miracle of it all. Hang in there and just put yourself on cruise control.

To all you others who posted, what can I say but thanks for the positive vibes (omg, a phrase I have not used since the early 70s). I wasn't asking for a pity party or commiserations, but it allows me to put things into perspective when shit goes wrong here just by writing it.

It also happens to be the truth but posting about it didn't make it any easier to handle in real life. Like Robin Willians in Good Mornig Vietnam, today seemed to be a whole nother world for me... one that I am rarely forced to enter. Despite my curmudgeonly status, I am usually pretty positive. Today just didn't want to cooperate.

Ah well, on the good side,.. three unopened fifths of Jack in the cabinet. It could be a long night and a sick day tomorrow.... oh wait. I got fired, didn't I? No work! Hooray! I knew there was a silver lining somewhere.

Keep on keepin' on Korg. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I was let go from my job last week. I was given some idiotic rhetoric which boiled down to the fact that I take work TOO seriously. WTF? I work very hard, am somewhat quiet and become very engrossed in projects. I guess that intimidated some people.
