The freezing point of water is variable dependent on air pressure... Air pressure that God creates with the flapping of a thousand seraphs' wings while they look out from the four corners of the earth. ;)

But everyone knows seraph evolved from Devlin

I'd like to see a day where all spoken and written and otherwise emoted language was rendered useless, and see what happens.

There's already a program in place to cause that, it's called "Mutually Assured Destruction." (Psst: The secret code is 0000000.)

Here's a spoof denouncing the periodic table if the elements and encouraging the teaching of "alternate theories",... :D

religion is not a science
science is based on facts, not a belief.
evolution is based off a lot of facts, it makes sense, and it works.

Whoa, news flash! I don't see where anyone here has made any claim to that effect.

To "prove" inter-species evolution, you'd need to live a really really really really long time. No doubt, species adapt, morph and change over time. But, it's pure theory to conclusively state that humans are the direct descendants of pre-historic apes, let alone of single-celled amoebas that swam in the ocean billions of years ago.

Well...

"This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered."

You have to admit, this IS the spirit of science.

And hey, there IS the alien theory. You bastard evolutionists.

:D

BTW

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

Silence!!!!
Everyone please ignore that and do not watch the small man behind the curtain! :P
Seriously though, that would be one of the more realistic ones IMO. It seems much easier to believe the planet was seeded with the chemicals we needed to get a "jump start" so to speak. Not saying that life would not have happened without that as well, but i think you would be hard pressed to find anyone in the scientific field today who didn't believe that metors or comets.... or "aliens" as u call them :P, didn't play some part in our early beginnings.

On a related note "NASA's venerable Voyager 1 spacecraft appears to have reached the edge of the solar system, a turbulent zone of near-nothingness where the solar wind begins to give way to interstellar space in a cosmic cataclysm known as "termination shock," scientists said yesterday."

I guess that means it should be hitting the upside down metal bowl with the holes in it for the rain to come through any day now ;)

On an additional related note... A Short History of Nearly Everything is a really good book if you want to learn quick info about all this in layman's terms. It's really well written and very interesting :)

And has the best description of what would happen if a meteor slammed into the earth that i've ever read :D

As Lianne said, this points to a fundamental misunderstanding of what a scientific theory actually is:
...
I find a good rule of thumb is that what the average person thinks is a "theory" is actually a hypothesis, and what most think of when they say "hypothesis" is actually a theory.

I somewhat disagree with that statement, Lora. Religion is a series of culturally oriented worship practices. Intelligent design merely acknowledges that some ambiguous universal intelligence may have had a hand in architecting the creative framework. Keep in mind that the separation of church and state is intended to prohibit government from establishing or sanctioning specific religious practices. Acknowledging the possibility of intelligent design is not, in my form, an establishment act.

David - Note that many creation scientists completely agree with you regarding micro, intra-species evolution. It's the transitory, macro form of evolution with which they generally take exception.
Nah.
Intelligent design is not a theory it is just an interesting hypothesis.
It cant be a theory cause there is no evidence one way or the other, it's all speculation.

If you want a full-fledged actual "theory" regarding evolution that is supported by evidence etc. but habitually ignored and not talked about in schools, the Aquatic Ape theory of human evolution is the best example.

There is nothing to disprove it, and much that supports it. It even explains some aspects of regular evolution theory that are really a trifle on the weak side. Yet no-one will mention it and you wont find it in most Univesity or college textbooks (except perhaps in the notes at the back or some small gloss somewhere)

I am not arguing that it is even right, just that it is a valid theory that is hardly ever considered and certainly not taught in schools.

Written by a woman might have something to do with it. ;)
