No Alts in the Forums

Eh. everyone knows Aimee Weber is my alt so I see this thread as a non-issue.

I've been accused of being an alt on a few different occassions.

People thinking I'm Siggy's alt is the most understandable, I suppose. We have used each others computers before, and SL website log-out is about as affective as asking it kindly to change users for you, so we've accidentally posted under the wrong accounts.

I was also asked quite a few times whose alt I was when I first started posting, because I was "too good at the forums." I had to explain that while I was new to SL forums, I was not new to forums in general, the internet, typing, or, ya know, communicating with other human beings. I don't see any reason that being able to communicate and not spazzing out at the drop of a hat should be an 'alt-alert.'

The funniest I ever heard, though, was someone claiming that I was actually Alby Yellowknife. I don't know if they had me mixed up with someone else, or they were perhaps dellusional from a high fever, or maybe their reading comprehension was broken, but I can't think of one thing I ever could have said to leave that impression. The only interaction I ever had with him was calling him Alex P. Keaton.

Oh, and then there's Ulrika asking if Surreal was my alt, or vice versa. No idea where that came from, either, but I'm flattered.

I think often people use the Alt excuse to try and marginalize someone's opinions when they can't counter them any other way.

I agree, Jonquille.

I spend a lovely first two or three months being dismissed completely and contemptuously as being someone's alt. I was even treated to lengthy conversations with people who told me that no one else would write like that or even use punctuation like that, much less have any ideas in common with the person whose alt I just had to be.

Fortunately, this period waned and I entered the lengthy "puppet" period (I like to call it the "poppet" period), equally contemptuous, if not more so. This too is total hogwash. Now I seem to be finally edging into the realm of normality, in which I get to be agreed with, disagreed with, liked, or hated as an actual individual who thinks for herself.

Oh, yeah, I forgot - everybody gets to talk about their own experiences of being taken for an alt but me, right? That is in the Weedy Rules of Order, isn't it?

It looks like the proposal has passed. Hillary Clinton will be President.

I strongly oppose the use of alts in the forums! Anyone who does so is shady and disreputable, like that awful "Cubey Terra" fellow! His alts should be banned!
