This is more a introduction of my first time playing Second Life, i just joined June 30th, 2005 and found the game to be very different from all the online games i've tried. It presents a very refreshing aspect to online gaming which others don't offer.
I hope to find what i'm looking for in this world and see what it holds for me.

Yes, Second Life is only limited by our imaginations. For this reason we have created a complex and facisnating world, that can sometimes be overwhelming. Welcome to the team, and if you need any help, feel free to IM me in world.
Cheers -Satch-

Hi Sylfie! Welcome to Second Life. Second Life is not a game, in that it presents you with no clear-cut objectives or mechanics. It is totally freeform, so it ends up being radically different things to each different person. Some people like using it as a chat room. Others love the way they can build stuff in 3D. The more geeky among us like it for the powerful scripting language... It took me a long time to "get" this thing, but after two years I am still here enjoying myself. So don't be discouraged, spend some time with us and you'll never want anything else

Thank you for the welcome

Soooo far, my game life is to visit all the money trees as often as i can to earn some money to buy some of the wonderful things that people have made. If you see me flying by, please forgive me for not saying hello. I would like to make myself a bit more presentable to the community (do like what the roman do in rome, type of thing) than the basic newbie clothes/etc. Afterall, first impressions counts.
Once i settle down, i would like to understand how to make things like furniture, jewelry, clothing as well as "try" to understand scripting for elevators, automated sliding doors, and such.
I've met some very pleasant people in Second Life already who have given me a warm welcome on my first few days, this lead me to upgrade my basic account to the premium one based on that feeling of a loving community which most other online games seem to lack.

Under Find and the Places tab, type in freebies and newbies. There's a TON of great free stuff (some free stuff is actually $1, so people can track how often it's picked up) that's well worth the time. Great clothes. A lot of it's high quality too. Scripts, vehicles, furniture and houses. Just about anything you can think of, all free. Or at least $1.

I'll try to come by tonite. So far i was able to mix and match a few clothes from the freebie gift box that people have been giving me as well as buying other accessories as i see as affordable.
Last nite, i was looking at avatar skins and i see them ranging from $500 - $4000 Lindens, is there "that" much of a difference in terms of quality? I'm asking since i'm curious about what people think.
If there is a "big" difference, are there any suggested name brands i should look for for that quality?

Hey there Sylfie! I don't come around the forums often, but I just saw this thread and decided to greet you, and welcome you! I'm mostly a scripter, so if you have any problems with understanding how scripting works or affects things, or need a script or two, let me know! I have a bunch of scripts for free (not all of which I've put in my vendors yet), and I constantly make scripts for people (often for free!). So contact me in SL (even if I'm offline, I'll get back to you!) and let me know if you need anything. EDIT: Oh, and as for your last question (I meant to reply to it, and forgot ^_^;.): From: Sylfie Minogue Last nite, i was looking at avatar skins and i see them ranging from $500 - $4000 Lindens, is there "that" much of a difference in terms of quality? I'm asking since i'm curious about what people think. It's mostly taste and preference, though quality goes in too. It's pretty much like in real life: low end is often low end, high end is usually overpriced, and the middle range is where you want to look. Of course, what you're interested in as well as how much cash you have will change what the "middle range" is, so be careful. No-one's rushing you, so take your time and think about it - but even then, you'll get more cash as you go, so don't worry about it too much either! Have I confused you enough yet?

From: Keilaron Tomba Have I confused you enough yet? *chuckles* Ooohh, like she needed help on that! I'll add my welcome to all the others, Sylfie. And on your question about skins? Well, here is a suggestion that makes sense, I think. Don't buy any right off the bat, wait and see what you will be doing in game before buying anything that is expensive. There are PG skins, which means no private places - those are usually the cheapest and some of them can actually be pretty good too. Good for those who just want to build and script, while still looking stylish without the risk of "indecent exposure" in PG areas. Then there are the mature skins which have all the private places, these tend to be more expensive, catering towards models, clubbers and those of us who just like the more mature aspects of the game. I waited until I figured out what I was wanting before buying one, because at the moment, my photoshop skills aren't up to par to handle skins.

Hahaha, I'm not so confused when it comes to what i would like to have (typical woman, hahahah). And i can become very high maintainence to that degree. I actually managed to scrimped and saved over 5000 lindens by getting the allowance and raiding money trees (since i've started playing) to do a complete make over of myself last nite with a $4000 skin. Soooo, i'm very happy right now and think i'll go around tonite to start meeting people with more confidence!

I'm not sure what i want to do in the game world really, so i tend to go overboard and try to get things/items of what i percieve to be a standard expectation in the community, hence, why i said earlier "when in rome, do what the romans do" plus i want to look nice! As for "indecent exposure in PG areas", i don't think i would intentionally and morally have a wardrobe malfunction as i consider that is something of poor judgement.

Nah, it's just that some are more paranoid than others on that, so I thought I'd mention it And yes, it is rather amusing to have someone rezz in a PG area.. wearing NOTHING at all Usually it's an accident, player not realizing the area is PG at the time of TP.

I need to stop picking up all the nice giveaways for the time being. I think i have only 7 days as a newbie to get as much money as i can from the trees and all the clothes sorting/wearing/co-ordinating is taking away from that time, hahahaha! I'll try to look for all you nice people tonite so we can finally meet!!

Hahaha, and i thought you meant something else like "WOOHOO"ing or walking around nude in public which so far i have "NOT" seen and that in itself shows the average maturity/morality level of the people in this gameworld. *Dons her SL cybercrime officer uniform and performs a raid on Raudf Fox for suspicions of naughty thoughts*

From: Sylfie Minogue *Dons her SL cybercrime officer uniform and performs a raid on Raudf Fox for suspicions of naughty thoughts* Suspicions? Only suspicions!? I could give you loads of evidence of naughty thoughts, but this isn't the place for that Besides, I save the nude wanderings for the mature areas It's more fun when the rest of them decide to join you! (No, I don't actually do this, but it is an idea....)

I could give you loads of evidence of naughty thoughts, but this isn't the place for that Well, you're innocent until proven guilty and the SL courts are based on your peers who would undoubtly find you innocent, so you're free to go now. Too bad, a shame really.... *winks* *tosses her head back, laughs and walks away from Raudf Fox twirling her unused handcuffs around her index finger*
