From: Keknehv Psaltery If bush hates black people, why would he hire Condoleeza Rice? Seriously, he's put more non-white people into government positions than Clinton did... Two words: window dressing. I will not go so far to say that Dubya hates black people. He is obiviously clueless about them. He reminds me of those kids who work at Best Buy who think they have to talk "black" to me because they think its cool.

Teeny, that's exactly the kind of spin I was just whining about. I know, it's often repeated, not your creation... But there's no proof whatsoever that Powell and Rice, or any others in his administration, were chosen because they are minorities. And why even bother putting up a front like that when he already won the election? Is putting up such a front really worth hiring less qualified individuals (hired not due to ability but due to race) to work with you for years to come? Minorities are however becoming more populous and better off, overall, so it's not surprising to me that over time more would show up in a president's administration... I don't think I buy that it's a front to look good.
But what's different about black people that makes Bush clueless about them? I don't follow that at all. Last I checked, they pretty much want all the same things that everyone else wants!
Because everyone is often attracted to money, and POWER! *in a Dark Helmet Spaceballs voice*

If you meant that Bush is clueless about the common "black culture" stuff out there....well, yeah... so is every politician out there! I don't even think that the more "hip" black politicians are really very knowledgable there.

From: Keknehv Psaltery If bush hates black people, why would he hire Condoleeza Rice? Seriously, he's put more non-white people into government positions than Clinton did... This is nothing to do with Bush personally "hating" black people, most of the commentaries I've heard and discussions I've had recently are much more about how the disaster has hilited the "institutional" racism in American society which is so often swept under the carpet. Also Bush is well known for playing the race card when it will be seen to do him good. But never forget how he came to power in the first place. ( Remember Florida ? ) As for Dr Rice, let me help you understand... Rice is/was the only choice. She has more qualifications for her position than anyone else. Rice is a an example that blacks must be twice as smart as whites in order to get to the same position. She is a Ph.D. and has accrued fairly impeccable political credentials during her career, unlike others like Cheney who I believe failed Yale and still got his job ? ( would a black person with his background ? ) Rice has extreme ambition and swung to the right because she seems to believe the American left has failed black people. Personally I have very little respect for that part of her, but at least I can see how and why she is where she is. And I've said enough now, I only posted my last comment because I was so angry when I saw the Bush hypocrit hugging those people on TV I very nearly threw up my dinner it made me so sick.

The Bush Administration is all about window dressing. Bush never appears in public without a hand picked audience. His so called "talks" with common people are full of sycophants who never have anything negative to say to him. He seems to prefer big banners in the background (remember "Mission Accomplished"?). Bush lives for photo-ops.
I'll concede that Powell and Rice may actually be somewhat qualified for the jobs that Bush appointed them to. On the other hand, their appointments were a bone tossed to the black community to give the appearance that he's "down" with black people. In Powell's case, he warned Bush of the possible consequences of invading Iraq. Powell knew better, but Bush chose to ignore him, and listened to the advice of inexperienced ex-CEOs. This, to me, is clearly a sign that at least Powell was there for window dressing.
As for the "difference" between black and white people... I can't speak for both parties. No one can, since we can be either one, the other or neither. The way I see it, we all want basically the same things. Unfortunately, cultural differences tend to fog the issue, creating the illusion of differences.

Bush, the "Huh?"
09-10-2005 00:56
look, i'm not saying Bush is a great person. i don't know of many politicians who are. what i am saying is.. when i saw him hugging those kids/young adults/whatever.. who were black, which apparently is an issue for some reason (you realize, all this type of conversation does is keep racism going?), i saw his face.. i saw his grimace, i saw the tears in his eyes.. but, mostly, i saw a human trying to comprhened the disaster that befell other humans.
i'm sure he didn't tell the cameraman, "hey.. see them black girls? watch this.. i'm gonna go hug 'em all tight and stuff ..heheh.. it'll look great for my image." i get the feeling he was walking along the street and just stopped to console these people who's lives had been torn usunder by the forces of nature.
before you reply to this though, remember.. i also know he's not the greatest president. but, i also know he's not a great actor, right? are you seriously saying he faked those emotions? that the hug he gave them was a simple political move? nope. i don't buy that.. for it to come across as sincere as it did, he would HAVE to be NOT acting for it to look real!
AND.. remember as well, Bush Jr. was raised from a kid as a political figure. he lived around it his whole life.. he was "programmed" his whole life for this. i would imagine (not state as fact) that this also means he "knows his place".. put on a pretty face, tell the people what's written in the speech, let Congress and the rest of the government handle the "dirty" work and make the "hard" decisions. every now and again, i think we get a peek at the George W. Bush that would go out of his way to help his country and ALL of it's people. but that's not who's running the office.. that's a puppet, a facade of a person who has been bred to do what he's told.
it's a sad state of affairs we have in our highest offices.. i can only hope that someday we'll see something shake the foundations and we can be granted with leaders who really care about what they're doing and not about all the power and money they can get.. or how much control they can apply to the government and it's people.
anyhoo, i've gone on longer than i planned.. point is, anyone can have some good moments to go with the not-so-good. yes?

i would laugh at the photoshopped joke, but i don't know.. the woman crying in desperation makes me a little wary of light-hearted responses.
but that would be screwed up if he really went around like some Roy Rogers on 'ludes trying to console the masses with his gee-tar slinging prowess.
edit: and no, Pancake, i'm not saying you made that post as a joke. i'm saying whoever made the fake to begin with.

I figured that shot was a fake. I have seen it elsewhere. Also, if he did show up in public with a guitar, that lady would probably not be holding the kid crying. She would most likely be kicking his ass.

He's hopelessly incompentent, clueless and just plain stupid. True monsters, such as Hitler were probably much smarter. The fought their way to the top themselves, and weren't overpriviledged like Bush. There is a difference between a self made asshole and a (in Dubya's case) hand picked asshole. As for the look on his face, it may have been genuine. I think that anyone who sees the devistation Katrina caused in person would be affected by it.

That picture is really badly doctored... whoever did it didn't know what they were doing. The lighting is completely different between the two figures, and the edges of George Bush are much too crisp.

Teeny-- calling the Bush administration on pre-planning things and setting up photo-ops is kind of meaningless isn't it? What politicians DON'T do that?
And the doctored (obviously) Bush guitar picture is very bad taste. People go too far trying to get people's attention in going out of their way to make Bush look bad, just another example of the George "Adolph" Bush phenomenon I guess...
