I love Snapzilla... I send pics to it, and I view it everyday. Is everyone else enjoying it to?

p.s. I wanted this to be a Poll, but I haven't figured polling out yet :(

I knew about Snapzilla long before I actually started using it. Now I think it's about the coolest thing ever. It's a graphical group blog.

A couple of weeks ago, a good SL friend of mine got married. The wedding was a visual treat in the park, with particle-effect flowers, flowing ribbons, the entire wedding crowd dressed to the nines in formals. I was taking pics of the ceremony and uploading them as they occurred, and was struck by the immediacy of the net. We take modern video for granted on news programs, but how cool would it be to have a place where anyone could upload digital photos within seconds of them being taken? Life itself could be documented and shared.

Snapzilla rocks. It's that simple.

I send a pic to there once in a while. Don't check site often, though.
Only to see my own pics. :p

Snapzilla is the bomb. Not only can you pop up shots as things happen, you can make albums, a favorites list, comment on why you chose shots as favorites, and I hear there's more juicy functionality coming, too!

Best thing to hit SL since sliced bread. I use it all the time and love it to death!

I've started a photoblog on Snapzilla. I think it's a brilliant way to vicariously explore SL.

I love the concept of something like snapzilla being the "running thought process" of everyone in-world at any given point in time. It's great!

It's the best depository of SL culture that we have.

I think Snapzilla is an important part of SL history and in the future may be more useful than the History Wiki. Well, we can only hope.

Snapzilla is one of the first places I send my friends so they can get a glimpse of what Second Life is. I post pics all the time of funny little things that happen to me or when I win something gambling.

Between the new live video feed and Snapzilla, I have be able to get A LOT more friends interested in the game.

Nope.

I do occasionally remember to use the Second Life Flickr Group though.

Is the interface for Flickr the same way? Take a snapshot in world and mail a postcard of it to an email address?

What do people think of that interface, taking snapshots and emailing it to Snapzilla? I really like it, but I was wondering if anyone had any troubles with it?

I never thought to try it when I founded the group; but as of the last time I checked, Flickr will happily accept the SL postcard emails. Since it is not SL-aware specifically you would need to strip the 'advertisement' to join yourself, and it will go to your personal photo stream. I'm not sure if you can email post direct to a group pool. Snapshot to disk and upload will be better quality though, since it isn't forced down to a lowest common denominator resolution (640x467)

Example -- my test post.

Long time viewer, first time user. It is a very cool service.

I just posted my first two pics and will add more in the future. I hope to add interesting pics that people will enjoy.

The one thing I dont understand about it is why people send in five, six, or ten of basically the same picture. It is usually the same people doing the same thing with little variance in composition. Would the variety and quality of pics improve if there was a daily limit on what could be uploaded?

Loki,

I have been loathe to add any restrictions - what I have tried to do is to talk to individuals who are sending through a lot of pictures in hopes that they will put more consideration into what they are sending. It's a fine line, because I don't want to say "hey, do we really need to see 50 shots of your new hair?" - so I try to ask them just to use some discretion since this is a public site and not just their personal photo blog.

I am adding a report image button this weekend to the site - if you see someone constantly posting smilar pictures, let me know. I may consider some kind of daily or weekly max - I'm not sure yet. I would like to try the approach of just dealing with individuals instead of creating any limits - but if that doesn't work, I will see what I can do to deal with the problem.

Thanks Cristiano. I agree it would be a drag to have to limit what is posted, but I would completely understand if it came to pass. With all the potential users and pics that could be sent in, your storing a lot of data.

I am a member of a RL digital photoclub, and I completely understand why I can only post one pic within a 72 hour period. That is really restrictive for the SL format, with all the spontaneous happenings that could occur, but that limit really makes me consider the quality of my submission.

But anyway, on a different note. Im curious, how often do you (everyone) use the provided link to visit the location of an interesting submission? I have a couple of times and it is pretty cool to be able to go see "in person", as photos often dont do a scene justice.

Yes. The look-at-my-hair posts are painful.

As a user of the service who posts moderately, I wouldn't mind a cap on the number of posts allowed per day. My only concern is that it could limit the creativity of folks like Saint Torley who posted frequently but the quality of their content was high.

As an alternative to your method of contacting frequent low-quality posters, perhaps you could implement a cap and then give those who request a higher frequency a special artistic or journalistic license to take unlimited shots. Just a thought.

I was curious how often the feature was being used, so I put in some tracking of clicks on the teleport links. The amount they are used really surprised me. In the month or so that I have been counting the clicks, they have been used nearly 5,000 times. I don't track exact destinations, but I do track sims - and the top sim to be teleported to from the site is Morris by a wide margin (nearly half).

I find a lot of stuff about the way the site is used fascinating. The most startling number has been the number of snapshots viewed. That number is only incremented when someone clicks on a picture to go into it and see it - so the fact that nearly 1 million snapshots have been viewed since the end of February is pretty phenomenal. Also, the site crossed the 10,000th snapshot threshold on May 25th. It took over 3 months to get to that point. However, by June 25th, the site was already at 16,000 snapshots. - in other words it took only one month to gain 60% more images. I imagine it will cross 20,000 by mid July at the rate it's going.

Cristiano, would you be willing to consider having data like that available on your site in aggregate form? Things like sims with most images taken in, sims teleported to most... I think it would be fascinating! :D
