OK. How about this: Is there nothing you will not reveal? Everything is without nothing, so my revelations are only relevant to everything. In September of 2004, Stephen Hawkings reneged on his view that information could be destroyed within a black hole. The reversal of time is still possible and string theorists continue to gain holographic ground. If I were to reveal nothing, I'd have to step outside the boundaries of the universe. So is there everything I will reveal? Yes. But can I tell you how to recode the pieces of the hologram? No. The information is there, but it's up to you to discern it. In one picture emerging from string theory, the essential properties of an object can be deduced entirely from the object's surface, just as the full shape of a three-dimensional object can be captured in the patterns imprinted on a flat, two-dimensional hologram. This holographic view of the universe was first proposed a decade ago by Gerard 't Hooft of the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and has been further developed by other scientists, including Lenny Susskind of Stanford University. String theory suggests that nothing ever actually falls into a black hole. Material is instead smeared out around the horizon. In this framework, the interior of a black hole is not only inaccessible to someone who stays on the outside but is also one enormous illusion. If nothing falls into a black hole, there's no paradox. Hawking radiation can carry information from the premises because the information never went into the black hole in the first place. The panda's thumb is not truly a thumb, but an enlarged sesamoid bone. Its thumb is not very opposable either, though it is considered opposable... technically. Really, this is just God's way of telling us that we are superior to Giant Pandas because Giant Pandas can't use guns or plot graphs. _____________________
