No. This summer higher fuel prices meant that I relied a little more on online environments for recreation than I normally do - since I didn't travel as much.

Gas prices don't effect me much, because I don't drive a towering wastemobile for no apparent reason like many idiots in this country feel the "need" to.
If this country had a water shortage, people would install below ground swimming pools and probably take longer showers. It's the same logic. |

I'm waiting for the Oil market to crash, or for the first stages of the fall of Democracy to start. From the way things are looking we're only a decade away from Snow Crash.
I'd better break out the ol' redneck katana and start practicing. |

You mean the petrol prices that are about 1/3 of the price we pay in the UK? It's only fair. Nope, but then again I drive a crappy 1990 Honda Civic that only needs 20 bucks every 2 weeks.
And when necessities need taking care of, entertainment is the first thing thats axed. _____________________

Well, I have gas-fired central heating, and I haven't noticed a recent increase in price. I also occasionally suffer from intestinal gas, but that has always been free, so far as I know. As far as hydrogen or helium or other gases, any increase in price would certainly affect airship travel, but I can't see it making much of a difference to second life.
Or am I missing a rather big assumption here? _____________________

Are higher gas prices cutting into your SL discretionary spending? My advice: Wait a few years before seriously using this argument. A buck extra per gallon is not going to kill anyone. Yet, if we force ourselves into a shortage or a political corner over sources of oil (as I expect we will at this rate), it might become a real problem. _____________________

Do what we do...drive cars with resonable engines and you'll save money!! Amen, reverend. They're working on the problem, though I'm told these engines are still annoying to maintain: http://www.suntimes.com/output/business/cst-fin-hybrid14.html And remind me to roll my eyes on the "fighting terrorism" portion of that article. ![]() _____________________

You mean the petrol prices that are about 1/3 of the price we pay in the UK? Absolutely. Personally, I think petrol prices in Britain ought to be quadrupled so that we large, rapacious, voracious Americans can have our gasoline and diesel prices cut by half. Actually, I was referring to the implications of fuel costs in terms of international travel. But what-the-hey. Instead of camping out in Trafalgar Square and doing my annual Ben Nevis walk, I drove my redneck cadillac to Texas. ![]() |

May I suggest two wheeled transportation ? Preferably in a v-twin 45 degree arrangement ? Of course the EPA has mandated that motorcycles are teh evol ozone hole causing contraptions as of 2006.

My boss rides a motorcycle to work. He tells me that the big bike manufacturers are reporting a recent huge surge in sales in the Southwest USA...everything from scooters to top-of-the-line cruisers. No specific cause given, but he and I both guess it's because more and more people just can't afford to feed cars.
Me, I take the city bus and the company picks up 50% of my monthly bus pass. My employer's also actively looking into telecommuting, which has historically been a big no-no with us. Prices in Phoenix tend to be on the high end anyway, because we only have one major pipeline servicing the region. It's an increasingly frequent topic of overheard conversation here. I've lost all desire to ever own a car. I can't see spending that much money on fuel. I want one of these. -- jj |

Hot cams, 24 valves, and 6,250RPM just sound way too good to me. I figure I might as well enjoy all of that now that I've got it. Gas would have to be much more expensive to convince me to stop.
