I think it's Wrong (sorry, bbc) to put up two voting booths in the same location.

It's against the Rules, but it isn't being enforced (it's too hard TO enforce, I know).

What we need is an additional script within the voting booths. One that senses for other voting booths within X meters (say 128). If it finds another one owned by the same person, then it should Die.

Simple.

Ok, this may not sound like much of a rant, but if you could actually hear me say the first sentence out loud you'd be cringing. I promise.

As a net, when results are posted can't the Lindens just not pay on one?? Say, the one with the lesser votes (owned by the same person on the same property)??

What I don't understand...is that a Linden clearly knew about the double booths at last night's OH, but chose to do nothing about it, such as politely asking the host to remove the "old" booth.

Anyhow, as I mentioned in the Voting Booth thread, the days of unlimited vote money is about to come to an end...which is only fair, imao...

Only one vote station allowed per resident per region

It's fine to have multiple vote stations if each one represents a different structure. But in order to prevent mulitple station getting votes for one structure, each resident will only be paid for one vote station in a particular region. (The name of the region appears in the lower right hand of your screen.) We'd appreciate it if you would go ahead and delete extra stations. Otherwise we will need to go through and reverse the payment on duplicate stations starting for the March 13 results.

:(

So you can't own and be voted on more than one property per sim??

Seems unfair to go that far. I own two plots on either end on Minna that have nothing to do with each other. Weekly pay is already a negative for me minus taxes. I AM for fair but this kind of limit sucks the fun & potential out of participating in multiple projects.

Please reconsider.. can't we meet in the middle somewhere???

Does anyone else have more than one distinct structure in one region?

Steller does -- her treehouse and her 4 Seasons store.

Both structures are worthy of independent votes, IMO.

I had one at the lotto stations in clementina and 1 at the house 100 meters or so away

was gonna build a tron ride as well in the same sim

now I'm gonna have to rethink the location of the tron ride....

(hope we can get the sensor deal the detects other voteboxes in like 60 meters owned by the same person....)...

would hate to live in tehama and have my store in tehama too 8)

I would have to agree with Shebang on this.. maybe the voting booths should have that lil something extra to prevent ppl from having more than one booth on the same area. but i also don't think those who have build more than one structure in the same sim but in different areas should get the shaft.. if a sensor of sorts is put into the booth it will keep those ppl who have 2 up from hording votes but still allow those have put their time and money into homes and businesses near one another to keep their booths up.

I like the one that detects a second booth and dies if it finds one. I would think that having one within Say distance would be effective and easy to implement.

However a better solution may be that all voting booths within a certain range acted as one. I think it is possible but a bit harder to script. It would be easier with Obj -> Obj IM, but still not the easiest.

I was just getting ready to build another build with a *completely* different purpose right next to Val and my store, but separated by a mountain.

The store obviously has one purpose, and whereas I don't want to give details at this point, the new build has a very obvious different purpose. I suppose I could put it on another sim, but that seems a little silly since we have these big plots of land already.

Thanks -
Kerstin

<Re-post from other thread>

Although my four structures ARE on different sims, they just as easily could have been in one or two (home, business, marina, promo stand).

I think that there should be limits, two or more vote stations on the same plot for the same person (or 'next door' structures with same purpose), is just wrong. Which, depending on how the rules come down I may have to remove one of my vote stations (the promo-stand), as it is related to my store, but in a different sim.

I think that if a user has multiple 'plots' on a single sim, but they are clearly of different purpose and design, then they should be allowed to have a vote station for each.

Yes, I do in Tehama. Very, very far apart.

Here's the problem from a different angle. I have one build that is in two different sims. How do you prevent people from setting up booths at either end. Since the booths are in different sims at a glance everything would look ok.

wonder how long it will be before someone moves their building to a sim line just to have 2 voting boxes 8)

AND I'm also building the Our Gang clubhouse. That will be #3, I have avoided putting up a Voting Booth as of yet until I get something up worthy to look at.

Paul also has two builds his ship and his house/store, both are wonderful builds.

I think it shouldn't be too difficult to implement a policy to allow more than one booth per sim per person, provided that it is a distinct piece of land and a reasonable distance apart (say 75 meters or so). To get around the possibility of having two booths near sim lines, the minimum distance should apply here as well.

What is clear is we want a policy that prevents more than one booth per property per person, although there should be no limit to how many booths on a property if they belong to different people, as Kerstin has mentioned. If the Lindens apply just a modest amount of common sense here, there really shouldn't be any problems with multiple booths, even if they are in the same sim or whatever...

Excellent point! Josh and I *could* have four each at the arena according to those guidelines. Of couse we wouldnt and wont but still. The most viable solution I have seen is a script to self police mutiple booths by the same owner within a certian proximity

A simple solution, put one booth per distinct build. Anyone caught doing otherwise looses all rights to voting booths. I had a paddle wheel boat in front of my trading post, but considered it a part of my build so only had one booth for that build. My sailing ship on the other hand is distinctly separate and on the other side of the island, therefore it has its own. (both are in Welsh)
Why penalize everyone for the few people who abuse the system.

I have a voting booth outside of my place....but inside on a table i have a really tiny one. that ones only for show really, noboddy even clicks on it. i just thought it was cute. If there was a way for me to take the script out of it, and just have it sitting there that would be fine by me. But for now, i suppose i can allways take the tiny one down. (sniffle sniffle). lol However...i dont think that the reason some people have 2 is because they think its cute. hahaha

I think as a temporary policy its an ok one. I don't think its a good one for the long term though, too much Linden time required and too ambigous. Could future lindens ever disagree on when two was appropriate?

As far as I'm concerned, I think it would be better to turn voting into more of the ratings system, except you would click on a person's property, and rate that only once a day, instead of using any booths or anything. If you have 2 separate builds, then that means they are on 2 separate properties, thus 2 votes can be counted there.

That's just me though...

Heya,, I have an idea,,,

Instead of gripping & moaning & whinning & stuff about people having more than 1 booth per sim, the lindens putting a cap on earnings from voting booths,, and general precieved unfairnesses... why not try this???

BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN VOTING HABITS

Something most people here seem to B overlooking. Sure it's easire to sluff the responsibility off on the Lindens, but How could it possibly B unfair if you don't let it B??? If U come up to a structure with more than 1 booth on it,, take the extra few seconds out to hover the cursor over the booth & find out if they are Ndeed owned by the same person. Or just do like me,, click on them both and B on your merry little way. if you're worried about Joe Cakehole getting more money that you Petition the lindens to put a vote cap = to the number of registered users in SL,, then AT MOST every one will receive 1 vote from everyone else.

To me, the voting booths are only about money,, same with the ratings system, if I see a booth I will hit it, weather it's the govoner's mansion, or Nate007's vacant lot. When I meet someone I rate them positive in all catagories, and if they turn out to B not my cup of tea *COUGHRIVNAHEM* I don't change thier ratings cause we ALL need money, the more the better, and to not vote, to rate poorly, and to cap the limits is to hurt the economy ( and the negative rating is kinda petty too IMO).

So why not just watch what U click on, & let the lindens focus there efforts on far more important things like,,,, Sub object tools, Making scripts more sim friendly, streamlining stuff so there is less issues with lag, New & inventive ways for people to make serious money,, not the nickel & dime shiznit U get from voting booths & Ratings , MAN ALIVE,, the list goes ON!

What was this all about??? let me reitterate for folkz who forgot their Ridlen (sp?)

BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN VOTING HABITS

& drop al this namby-pamby socallist whiney crap

A copy of this message wil be posted under Jaxiam Slate's thread "Voting Booths yet again " as well

Thx for your time

If you're referring to the Yamato OH, then listen up.

Although I'm new to SL (as of last monday), I've figured out that these voting booths go through periodic revisions, requiring their owners to replace them. Yuniq had just placed the second, new booth the night before.

now think about this:
You have an OH coming up the next day with lots of potential voters (and therefore $$) coming over, and you've just been given a new voting booth, whose functionality you haven't confirmed. Are you really going to ditch the old booth and pray that the new one tallies your votes correctly, or are you going to leave the old one there for backup until the new one has proven it works?

I can guarantee you the old booth isn't going to be around much longer, provided the new booth indeed worked ;)
