Now another interesting permutation is what happens if Aimee Weber goes a secures an license from CK to make virtual CK jeans using CK IP. Then someone else comes out and makes knockoff CK jeans. Then Aimee has grounds to enforce her license..hmmm.

Ya, they keep bugging me to do that but meh. New season of Battlestar Galactica just started... and this apartment is a total mess so I should spend time cleaning it...

Image Editing

I recommend not using Photoshop, it is a resource hog (computer wise) and too expensive. I recommend Micrografx Picture Publisher, though the company apparently changed names and is no longer producing PP, it can be found through Ebay for about $20. It has many features and I would say equivalent to Photoshop. Often I find people try to compare the two and claim that photoshop is the best; for the most part those people have never used Picture Publisher and probably have spent a good amount of money learning PShop or have taken graphics courses in college and I think they make these claims because they are trying to justify the money they spent on learning it.

I just wrote and then erased a drawn out paragraph about computer and why people feel the need to never admit they don't know something about computers and always act as if they do, but I erased it because I don't want to get too far off subject.

My point is that there are other image editing tools to user that do not cost $500, but are equivalent to Photoshop. I mean nothing personal by writing this, who ever started the thread, please do not take it personally.... Aimee Weber that is.

Here is a link for Paint Shop Pro: (for PC's only)

It retails for $79. I recommend checking EBAY for software, too, before you pay full price. I've used Picture Publisher since version 4 and the latest I use is version 8. I think it got up to version 10 by Corel, after they bought the company? but I never found another NEED to upgrade, features in the version I use are suitable for anything from desktop publishing to putting ads in Rolling Stone magazine.

There are other versions of Picture Publisher I found on the 'net that will do the job. Try Picture Publisher 7. As well, there are some other image editing packages on the internet that will do. If you find one and have questions about it, send me a message and I will personally verify that it will do the job.

My main concern is keeping costs down for someone who wishes to create clothing and textures for SL, but doesn't have an unlimited amount of funds.

This thread is satirical. Photoshop's exorbitant cost is part of the satire.

But, good to know.

Mustikos, Thanks for the tips. Can you also suggest a good trademark attorney?

Hrmmm. I wonder what is nicer, eating chocolate, or having it eaten off you. I think it's a tie.

I was going to say it may be nicer to combine the two and eat chocolate off yourself, but that would contribute nothing to the forums or the topic; however, most posts contribute nothing to the forums and by saying so, this post becomes a comment on the state of the forums and so contributes something. That isn't true but doesn't it sound impressive?

Step 6. Consult a trademark attorney.
It's not required that you register the name of your outfit as a Trademark, but you should still have a TM professional research possible conflicts with other names. This search is more comprehensive than the simple TM search on the PTO web site and typically only takes a few weeks to complete. The result is a 3 ring binder filled with registered trademarks that may cause potential conflicts. This search comes at a nominal fee ($600 - $1500).

The internet is an excellent tool for a first check on names. For instance, researching PREEN and fashion gets you two notable entries. Check out this one.
