This is a tough question. All isotopes and compounds of uraniam are profoundly toxic (as a chemical) and radioactive. In nonlethal doses uranium causes kidney damage and like asbestos, uranium compounds are poorly absorbed by the lining in the lungs and may remain a radiological hazard indefinitely. Yet once we suck all the oil from the ground in about 25 years (we'll start feeling the pinch in about 10 years), it'll be the only thing that saves us poor middle-class consumers from a life of poverty due to economic collapse or a country filled with hundreds thousands of filthy coal-burning power plants. Mmm. A toxic radiological energy source or the return of the black cloud with even more Earth-warming CO2. What a choice! (I prefer uranium myself.) ~Ulrika~

I'm a big fusion / solar / hydro fan, myself. Did you know that coal & oil plants release hundreds of times greater levels of radioactive materials into the air than nuclear plants do?

Nuclear plants shouldn't be releasing any ....thats the whole reason for the rods being contained in water......but what is there in oil or coal production that is radioactive?

you can actually still find some... at antique stores...
there was a line of flatware in the 40's and 50's that used uranium as part of its red-dye to give it a very distinctive brilliant orange coloring....
just take yer handy geiger counter and walk around some backwoods antique stores... you'll know you have a hit, from the parking lot (yes they are *THAT* radio-active)

From: Ingrid Ingersoll SUBSTANTIAL quantities of deadly plutonium from Britain's nuclear stockpile are officially "unaccounted for"...
I have a feeling Wu stole it and is selling it. i gave it to IRAN!

From: Eggy Lippmann I think in the long term it's fairly obvious that uranium and indeed nuclear energy will become more relevant as oil reserves deplete. Thankfully, Portugal is an uranium producer Wait, does that mean we are likely to be invaded if america runs out? If you haven't already, check out the periodic table table website. It rawks! http://www.theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/Elements/092/index.s7.html think like a land baron, eggy! use this knowledge to make money!

Well, as far as I am concerned I have always supported plutonium and always will.
You losers who prefer uranium are only living half lives IMO.

Did you know that coal & oil plants release hundreds of times greater levels of radioactive materials into the air than nuclear plants do? I was reading a Wired magazine article this month. A few interesting facts about nuclear power: - Nuclear is safe, efficient, cheap, and much cleaner than hydrocarbons. That is all.
