I know I know you hate me all I am the devil..

"braagghghgghgh!!"

<devil like noises with fingers curling at my either side of my head>

But, seriously, I think we should have more townhalls and the transcripts of them should be banned. Heck, for fun, copyright them and let people know that they're not supposed to reproduce them.

I think it's time we moved this show inworld.

I want to see more intimate, immersive conversations and less dry disconnected debate.

Be nice... Oh, right, that is being nice.

Frankly the posting of the transcripts is a blessing for those of us who can't be there to hear it for ourselves. You see, there is a limit to the number of avatars that can be in the sim at one time.. and there are more of us that want to listen than can fit into the sim.

Frankly, I'd rather see the posting from the Lindens than to go through the whole "She said, he said" thing that comes when you spread something by word of mouth. Remember the game "telephone", folks? Sometimes what you hear isn't what was actually said.

Limiting access to what was said at a town hall just plain fails to foster what you're looking for.
If you really want what you typed there where I quoted you, start holding events with that in mind. Advertise 'em. Find appropriate incentives for people to take an interest in 'em.

If Kris was nice though, it would ruin that whole smoky, sexy thing she has going on.

You're attempting to control the flow of information based on your personal ideology concerning virtual-world interaction. While social engineering is not intrinsically bad, I feel that in this case the cost would far outweigh the benefit.

In fact I would say that we should go exactly the opposite direction. We should have the Linden town hall meetings duplicated by transcript, movie, and even podcast to bring as many people into the discussion as possible. It's one of the primary ways in which our government communicates with its virtual citizenry.

omg, you're still with us. :)

I hadn't seen you post in a few days, so I thought you might have been doing the whole baby thing already!

Yes, I agree with Ulrika, here. Limiting the flow of communication between residents and Linden Lab in any way is counter-productive. Sometimes I can't make it to a town hall meeting because, you know, I have urgent matters to attend to in real life. Having access to transcripts makes this not a big deal.

Not yet. :)

I actually have friends in town this week and underestimated the amount of time I needed to put together the house for them this weekend. I'm glad to be back at work so I can rest now. *whew*

Did I get snookered? It's so hard to tell if blaze is serious or trolling. I guess that's a sign that his mad troll skillz are reaching near-olympic levels. ;)

Town halls aren't debates. They aren't discussions, either. They're extended public announcements, mostly about decisions already made or directions already taken. Occasionally they're interactive, but not to the point where there's any systematic give and take. That happens in other ways, on other levels.

Ban the transcripts, have more town halls, stagger the schedules, stream them on the web, hold them underwater. It doesn't really matter. Net result's the same.

blaze is seriously stealth-trolling.

Discussions are where two sides talk about issues and how all parties can resolve them. A town hall meeting does imply that discussions happen, but not in SL. In SL Town Hall Meetings are a chance for us to ask questions in specific areas, many of which are answered in the beginning from carefully selected emails and forum posts, to which they can give semi-answers.

forums? forums? forums? forums? -- yes, I think there is.

Maybe we should have the town meetings like normal and allow transcripts but ban the use of consonants. I think it's those harsh spikey sounds like" k" and "p" that cause most of the trouble.

I agree.. Nyet! The Town Halls are really more like FDR's old Fireside Chats on the radio; a way for those higher-up to more intimately exchange information with the population. Except that Town Halls have resident questions, too, like a talk show. And, y'know, there's no fire...

well, at most of them anyways.

I think with scheduling problems and sim limitations for capacity, the current system is fine. The transcripts are nice, because if you want to look up the specific wording for an answer, its handy.
