What the HELL did that guy say to Zidane to get headbutted?

I'm agog.

probably something involving his mother and a perverted act if I had to guess. I just wonder how many of that guys ribs he cracked.

Congratz to Italy!

Not the first time Zizu p00nes smone like that, and he kinda spared him by not hitting his face. I think players should have respect of Zidane, simply an Icon in todays football. They should all bow to him, not talking shit in his face, especially after he was right in that situation (he was held). Too bad it costed France the gold.

Honestly i share no respect for a man that, being 34 (and as such had 6 whole years to mature more than me), can't be cool enough to avoid reacting in that shameful way in the face of millions. Icon of football or not. Wathever he's been told, there's nothing that can warrant such a reaction (and people know well that words fly on the pitch, they always did and they will always do, and zidane knows that very well).
I doubt that what was said was the real trigger too, he was probably more frustrated by the fact that in 110 minutes he wasn't able to unlock Italy's defence and defeat Buffon's awesome guard. Moreover Materazzi was the one that equalized, wich probably added to Zidane's displeasure towards him.

They're all punks. Good thing Zidane kept his eye on the prize. He probably still had mud obscuring his vision from the last dive he took.

wasn't the theme of this World Cup anti-racism? If so, why hold the final match in a stadium built by Hitler, just a thought but well......

The Italians should have never been there. ask the Australians. Italy benefitted from a BS political call that was payback for a BS political call against S. Korea in 2002. Frankly I like sports where the winning team is decided on the field and not in the hallowed halls of FIFA, the most corrupt governing body in all of sports.

It takes away from the players success on the field, and that is a shame. So I say humbug to the whole world cup.

Jesus, ""I did insult him, it's true," Materazzi said in Tuesday's Gazzetta dello Sport. "But I categorically did not call him a terrorist. I'm not cultured and I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is."

Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Looks like some french are poorer loosers than i thought.

French defender william gallas declared he'd like to smash Materazzi's face in, that italians are all cheaters and stuff like that.

Now i find it really interesting on how much some people concentrate their attention on words (words fly during soccer matches, towards players and even towards the ref, it's not a positive thing, but every player and ref knows that, and they do it in all countries) to try and overshadow an act of shameful and incredible violence done by an idiot (yes, i insulted him, maybe he'll come headbutt me as well) that isn't even new to this sort of things.
Someone even got to the point of defining Zidane's reaction "inevitable", wich is rediculous to say the least.
I find this kind of attitude really shameless and shameful, and honestly now i'm even happier that france lost the final. Some people DO deserve a little of humiliation, once in a while.

And yes Taco, besides living an extremely sheltered life, most professional soccer players are plain ignorant (not cultured is a sweet euphemism, unfortunately) and not too smart.

Just to add another piece of info to this, most insults will change meaning and level of gruesomeness when you translate them in another language. For instance, in Italy what you transklate with "go fuck yourself" is aan extremely common low level insult. Looking at it from the other side to make a counter-example, in the US "goddamn" is not as bad, while if you tell the italian version of it in Italy you're gonna be seen as EXTREMELY rude.
Zidane played in Italy for many years, he's very familiar with the meaning of italian insults (as he used them himself many times in and out of the pitch).
So i think it's a good idea to take english translations of such insults with a grain of salt.
