Doom - The Movie

There is a new trailer for the Doom movie that is coming out in October. The cool thing about the movie, it seems, is that some of it is done in the first person view.

I hear they've ignored just about everything else from the game.

Why do they do that? Here they have a ready-made audience with certain expectations about what they're going to see... and hollywood makes a movie that has only one thing in common with the game: The title. Seems very strange to me.

According to today's news the film rights to Halo were just sold also.

Yes The Rock is in it... but he plays Sarge, not the marine... stupid casting.

From an interview I read on him, about the Doom movie, they actually wanted him to play the Marine, but he liked the Sarge better.

But... Sarge gets taken over by demons and ends up getting killed by the marine...

Or, what is it they have in the movie instead, zombies?

I love The Rock and i'll go see it anyway, but i'm expecting a horrible movie, like Dungeons and Dragons or Final Fantasy. At least if it's good i'll be pleasantly surprised

I think the real problem with movies lately are they are nothing but remakes of old shows, older movies, sequels to movies that shouldn't have sequels, and now video games. There isn't much originality at all in movies these days. So I guess their way of attempting originality is by making a video game into a movie...genius

Urrrrgh.... first bad cartoons, now they're down to games... well actually they've been hitting games here and there for awhile now I think.

The entertainment industry's creativity is just amazing isn't it..?

There are a few games I'd like to see made into movies, but NOT by mainstream producer idiots, I'd rather have nothing in that case.

A movie based on Doom, eh? If they stay faithful to the fan base, it will feature:

No plot whatsoever.
Brainless monsters that step out of the dark and beg you to shoot them.
A socially awkward but trigger-happy 14 year old who calls himself "God".
More 14 year olds who spawn camp and give the hero trouble the whole movie.
Two supporting characters who are named "Eric and Dylan"
2 sub-bosses named "Jac" and "Rodham"

Spoiler: The final boss, "Lieberman" steals an escape pod and heads for Earth. Of course, there will be a sequel

But what action style movie has any plot at all these days? It appears that the word plot has been replaced by the following words in any order:

action, guns, explosion, hot chicks, almost naked chicks, fast cars and the list can go on and on. Not that I am against any of the above mentioned items, but if that is all that the movie is based upon, it just isn't worth it to shell out the cash to see it. IMO, the last good action movie I saw was the Matrix (the first one, the others kinda lacked) it actually had a plot to it. (this is just my opinion, I have been in SL too much lately to have watched any newer action movies for example War of the Worlds) I have also been drawn into more dramas, Mind messup and comedies as opposed to action movies due to plot reasons.

The only thing that makes me doubt whether the Doom movie will be good is that all references to Hell are gone. One of the cornerstone aspects of the Doom videogame series is that the enemies are Hellspawn. The games were full of images of religious symbolism, and the supernatural Satanic unholiness of what you were up against was what made the series enthralling. Unfortunately, it seems that in this day in age, offending the religious right is a sure-fire path towards getting your efforts boycotted, and I suspect this fear that has leaked its way into Hollywood.

Instead, the plot now seems to now be about a genetic research experiment gone wrong, turning the inhabitants of the isolated lab into monsters, and now a military group is sent in to investigate / clean up. Sounds like the exact same plot of another videogame-turned-movie called Resident Evil. *sigh..*

Well..I enjoyed the first Mortal Combat movie, and I also enjoyed the first Resident Evil movie. They were admittedly a bit silly, but so are the games, so I think they stayed relatively true to form.

I only liked two movies based off of Video Games...

Super Mario Bros (contrived plot? the GAMES don't have plots...)
Resident Evil I & II : Mia Jovavich = Teh Hotness.

i went and saw Doom last night. and it was.. alright.

it mimics being in the game fairly well, but the plot being born from martian bio-engineering instead of demons from Hell is a bit off-center..

fun to watch, some funny moments.. some cool parts. i have to admit, the 1st person view sequence was pretty cool. (could've been more graphic though)

overall, i'd say.. go ahead and watch it, but... wait for video. save your movie cash for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe!

my vote goes to ...wait for it... Pokemon! honestly, the movie (as well as the cartoon series) portrays the CCG fairly well. referrances between the two abound and there are even some hints for the game within the movie. the characters acted as they should, Ash and company are fairly representative of a certain demographic of Pokemon players.

so there you go.. from that whole list, i stick with Pokemon. (Resdient Evil, 1 & 2, were both groovy flicks.. but not quite a direct translation from the game)

I will watch Doom for the comedy value, nothing more,

now if someone made a GOOD movie of Metal gear solid theres something,
but no that is not going to happen anytime soon, and even if they did they wont leave the storyline alone, they have to add bob, or JANET, and then turn it into a chick flick, the end,
