Not bad. Light entertainment, nothing great.

Like I said, good popcorn film: cool effects, plot that's not too complicated and not too simple, cute bald chick.

It looked like polished hollywood special effects schlock, so I never bothered to watch it.

Minority Report is one of my faves. I would have named it in my earlier list if I had remembered it, well, earlier.
Unfortunately I did not. So thanks for the refresher! The sonic guns in the weapon are an accurate visual depiction of what I experience known as rippleshock in my mind. In addition to this, Philip K. Dick is one of my favorite authors, despite me never having read a single book of his in entirety. I hope to, someday. (I did like Blade Runner the movie.) Precognition, or some quasiaspect of "tunnelling through time", or dare I say, "time travel", appeals to me wholesomely. I really liked the other special effects in this movie too, like how Tom Cruise acted like an orchestra conductor when he was scanning through the frames. Very neat interface, I'd like to do that with SL. In addition, there was a mall in it that's one of the biggest abandoned malls in the world... Hawthorne Plaza I believe it's called. _____________________

Ever read the Dune series? Very interesting views on the phenomenon. This is another highly-acclaimed series (at least the first few tomes?) I have not yet read. I know there's a time and place for it, not yet, but I hear so many good things. _____________________

I liked, I think it was Rich Halls joke about Tom Cruise movies, about the plot of them all being the same..
First he was a Cocktail Maker.. He was a pretty good Cocktail Maker, until he had a crisis of confidence and couldn't make cocktails anymore.. Then he found the love of a good woman who restored his confidence in making cocktails.. Then he was a Racing Driver.. He was a pretty good Racing Driver, until he had a crisis of confidence and couldn't race cars anymore.. Then he found the love of a good woman who restored his confidence in racing cars.. Then he was a Sports Agent!.. He was a pretty good Sports Agent, until he had a crisis of confidence and couldn't be a Sports Agent anymore.. Then he found the love of a good woman who restored his confidence in being a Sports Agent.. Then he was a Jet Pilot.. He was a pretty good Jet Pilot, until he had a crisis of confidence and couldn't pilot jets anymore.. Then he found the love of a good woman who restored his confidence in poloting jets.. He cuda been a scrabble player for all I care! He was a pretty good scrabble player.. Until he drew all vowels! Had a crisis of consonants.. Until he found the love of a Welsh woman who taught him how to spell with all vowels.. Possibly vaugly true of Minority Report? Police Pre-Crime Enforcer, pretty good one, until the system came after him and he had a crisis of confidence? _____________________

Rippleshock hasn't compelled me to read Dune yet. I actually have the musty first book of Frank Herbert's epic somewhere in a bookshelf here (I reckon I got it from the Salvation Army some years ago on a sci-fi trawl), but on past occasions, when I've drawn near to it, I feel this energy pushing me back.
I'm convinced that like a fire extinguisher, Dune may very well be beneficial to me in a time of emergency. (More of a dramatic, extended period than any single literal event of flames breaking out, however.) I know from experience Asimov's Robot books were this way to me in my youth. There is one quote I've heard tho, that stands out to me all along. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I don't know where exactly it's placed in the context of things, but here it goes: FEAR IS THE MIND KILLER I've felt this way often when reading the SL Forums. ![]() _____________________

Unless you think Tom Cruise is a lousy lover or something. _____________________

Aah... the Bene Gesserit litany against fear...
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. _____________________

Oh, speaking of books you might like Torley. I noticred in another thread you said you liked Steampunk; I quite enjoyed The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce stearling - it's got the same unledrlying plot as Gibson's 2 series but set in Victorian England. It's got the most confusing end of anything I've ever read.

I refused to buy or listen to The Downward Spiral (I knew it was good since I'd heard parts on the radio) until I absolutely felt like I didn't know what to listen to. I think I finally bought it around 2000, just in time to save me from the oppressively boring album The Fragile, which I will never buy but have heard in its entirety exactly once. _____________________

And on the topic of NIN, "The Perfect Drug" is still my fave single of theirs (his?). _____________________
