Looks like maps.google.com to me (Goggle Earth is mapped onto a sphere and has terrain... as far as I can see this does not).

Can you name a 'bird's eye view' area we can see? I'm not having any luck.

Yup, works now, Very cool stuff! I'll have to look at this a bit more, can't find a birds eye for my work or my apt complex, but very cool, that one of LL is amazing how close it's zoomed in, compared to google or other ones I've looked at.

Yeah, only certain places have birds eyes, you can't even zoom further than a mile in for me in the UK and it didn't even FIND Canada :p

Wonder if we can get Pathfinder or Bub to go out and put a gigantic LL on the roof for the next time the satellite passes over ;) ?

That's scary. I found my house, and the level of magnification is really freaky. Any closer and you could recognize individual people on the ground.

Well, at least my old car isn't present in the driveway so the picture isn't recent or anything close to live, as the name of the site implies, which is somewhat of a relief I guess. Between the two of us, we have 3 cars, one of which I took off the road almost 2 years ago, and it's been just sitting there ever since. Since it's not pictured, the photos must be over 2 years old. One snapshot every 2 years, I can live with. Frequent pictures would be unnerving.

The images must not be updated very often (if at all). The car they show parked next to mine at my complex hasn't been there in over a year.

Damn, that's kinda spooky to have such good resolution, but kind of comforting to know that they aren't really showing you realtime images, just aerial pictures lined up with their maps.

I tracked down my neighborhood and house on both this site and Google Earth. Looks like the same images to me. I'd estimate that the images are from at least early 2002, late winter judging by the state of the trees.

Edit: Upon further checking, I noticed that the now demolished Capital Centre is still standing in Landover, MD. Cars were parked around it, which indicates that it had not been abandoned at the time. It was imploded early December 2002, which pretty much confirms my earlier estimate.

According to those maps the house I'm in right now is actually a mound of dirt between two houses....:P This house is about 5-6 years old now... :P
They seem to be using the same sat map as google earth..

Spooky indeed! The car parked in front of my house is actually mine!

Here is Pioneer Square in downtown Portland, OR. Those black shapes are people! The map of near where I work downtown is several years old.

Well, most pictures seem to be the same, but not all. One thing I found to be superior about the Local Live site over Google Maps is that Local Live shows Area 51 while Google Maps has half of Navada grayed out. I guess if there's one company on Earth that's not afraid of men in black, it's Microsoft.

i havent checked recently but google maps indeed had a crystal clear view of the runways and building at Area 51 and the groom lake testing facility

maybe it has changed, but it was linked in keyhole community

the bonhemia grove, however, is drawn in

hmmmm

It appears that the bird's eye shots are more recent than the aerial shots. I'd guess that the bird's eye views of my neighborhood were as recent as spring 2004.

Hmmm

1. No 3-D view that Google Earth has. Bird's eye view is isometric, kind of cool, but lacks any control over the angle and flexibility to add new things.
2. Slow and choppy compared to Google Earth.
3. Aerial view at my house was black and white, and didn't even have the highest resolution. I live in Jersey City, accross from Manhattan, so no reason this couldn't have been better.

But... given this just came out, that's not bad. It's nice to see Microsoft competing; it'll help both them and Google innovate.
