Miss the part where a person wearing a pro-war shirt was also asked to leave/cover, did we? Nope, I don't think she should have been asked to leave either! Though she was told to leave, and not arrested. _____________________

Miss the part where a person wearing a pro-war shirt was also asked to leave/cover, did we? Nope. Didn't miss it at all. What really happened was a Congressman's wife was wearing a "support the troops" shirt and was ordered to leave the gallery. I know that the right-wingers out there can't tell the difference between "support the troops" and "pro-war" but many of the rest of us can. And I'm not sure what your point is. Ordered to leave and arrested are a little different, aren't they? And I really think it was wrong for the lady to have been asked to leave. When did we give up the first amendment? Was that another part of the same legislation that the President claims allowed him to break other laws? And your obscene allegation that Ms. Sheehan only "supposedly" loved her son is evil. Plain evil. But I guess you're only following the talking-points aren't you? You go on to call her a liar too. Wow. Yeah that makes sense, let's ignore the corruption, the mismanagement, the fabrications surrounding the war and the "reconstruction" of Iraq and go after a mother who disagrees with the President's policy. Wow. Tens of thousands are dead, the country is in ruins, an Islamist government is likely, millions in funding have disappeared, our soldiers don't have the armor and equipment they need, but quick, look over there at Cindy Sheehan! She's bad, really baaad! Effing Amazing. |

Yes, fascist fear that suppresses support for him as well as against him! Oh noes! "Support the Troops" does not equal "Support George Bush". No matter how many times you say it does. |

Wow. ![]() I say this to show the absurdity of the situation. Since when is wearing a t-shirt with words on it an illegal protest? Though the Capitol Police have admitted that they are in fact idiots and should never have ejected either woman. _____________________

In light of the partisan weight of this thread; I'd like to take the opportunity to make an announcement. The Iraq War Memorial has been relocated and is rezzed back in world in Crooked much thanks to Toy LaFollette for providing the land. Ironically enough right next door, yes you guessed it, the Devine Sign ! I love the smell of irony.

And what new danger to the world did the President announce during his speech? Human-animal hybrids! How he missed self-aware genocidal robots I don't know. Iraq is in the toilet. Hamas took Bush's democracy ideas to heart and got elected. Social security reform is dead. Energy prices are obscene. The price of health care is spiraling out of control. And the Republican family values police on Capitol Hill are going down in a huge bribery scandal. "But look over there!" cries the President, "it's a human-animal hybrid! Run for your lives!" Effing Amazing. Bush fears the Furries!!!! Honestly, I'm sick of all the politics. Tired of the he's right, he's wrong. Just makes someone numb after a while, but furries? Oh man. Time to bring back the inquisition. It all feels like a bad Monty Python skit. |

Not a furry myself, at least not in the realm of SL, but still, I think our POTUS is just afraid that Busty McVixen is going to take a liking to his Southern Accent and his "Hi ya'll!" toothy smile.

I know that the right-wingers out there can't tell the difference between "support the troops" and "pro-war" but many of the rest of us can. I context, in this case, I don't think there was a signifigant difference. And I'm not sure what your point is. Ordered to leave and arrested are a little different, aren't they? [/QUOTE] Actually, in this case, no. It's a matter of where the event went south. Sheehan was arrested because she didn't leave. Congresswife was not arrested because she did leave. And I really think it was wrong for the lady to have been asked to leave. When did we give up the first amendment? Was that another part of the same legislation that the President claims allowed him to break other laws? Hey, I'll freely agree I think both cases were way overblown. I just don't think its as partisan as you seem to believe. And your obscene allegation that Ms. Sheehan only "supposedly" loved her son is evil. Plain evil. I call 'em like I see 'em. I can't imagine using the memory of a loved one in the way she does. THAT to me is obscene. It dishonors the memory of her son and mocks everything he believed in (Important note, Casey in life did not share his mother's opinions on the war, as can be seen in his letters). But I guess you're only following the talking-points aren't you? You clearly knnow nothing about me if you say that as anything more than a flippant attack aimed to discredit me. You go on to call her a liar too. Wow. Yeah that makes sense, let's ignore -snip list- Tu quoque. I call her a liar because she is. Regardless of anything else. Effing Amazing. Absolutely bloody predictable. As for the rest. try again when your arguements involve more than argumentum ad misericordiam . _____________________

i have to chime in on this one because i HATE the capitol police. i am in no way surprised that they arrested her without asking/ordering her to remove or cover up the shirt. yes, i am biased against them after being falsely charged with a crime, arrested, then taken to a holding cell because i had no picture ID after the officer "lost" my license. i had to spend way too much money on a lawyer to fix their mistakes. capitol police = teh suck

You do realize that Cindy Sheehan's shirt is also a form of Iraq War Memorial right? Strictly speaking. The dictionary defines memorial as a place to "preserve remembrance". I suppose technicly Sheehan's shirt does that. Common parlance suggets memorial also means "to respect those who's memory is being preserved". Since I think we both know we disagree on the issue, I don't think I need to draw this out further. Clearly we disagree on how respect should be shown. _____________________

You do realize that Cindy Sheehan's shirt is also a form of Iraq War Memorial right? That's not the irony I was referring to. I suppose you could construe it as such however and I have no argument with you there. She wasn't arrested for wearing the shirt. _____________________

Ok, let me put this another way...
Two women were ejected from the gallery at the president's state of the union adress for illegal protesting. This protesting took the shape of 2 very different t-shirts with their views on the front. Now let's just say these two women were your average woman (not anybody well known, or married to somebody well known), with their very own opinions, which they just happened to have on their shirts. Should they have been ejected? I know we all have opinions about at least one of the women that was in this story, but what if it wasn't these two women? What if these women were complete strangers to the rest of the world? Would you still be arguing about their backgrounds and actions prior to the ejection? I now realize I started this thread out wrong, but I was in a hurry when I did it. So if we could please focus on the real issue here? And I'd still like to know their definition of "demonstrating" as well as "illegal protest." _____________________
