What's interesting is that Washington lost 4 of 5 battles he fought during the Revolution and never could quite accept the fact that his rag-tag bunch of farmers and artisans were no match for British mercenaries. He dreamed of being an honored general and gentleman - in the European style. What's interesting is that if the British government had offered Washington a commission in the British Army, he would have accepted and likely led units against the revolutionaries - or so he claimed, just before the conflict broke out. What's interesting is that the real "genius" behind the revolutionary forces was GW's second, Nathaniel Greene, who led the brilliant "Southern Campaign" against Cornwallis in 1788-1780, and forced the British general to trap his own forces in Yorktown - the last, decisive battle of the war. Greene developed the basics of irregular, guerrilla warfare, convinced Washington that a strategy of survival was preferable to decisive encounter, and taught Washington how to retreat in good order. Greene has been honored by military historians, officers, and revolutionary military leaders in the twentieth century - including Leon Trotsky, Mao Zedong, V.G. Giap, and Fidel Castro. What's interesting is that nearly all of the "founding fathers" - Greene and Washington included - would be completely outside the mainstream of American politics and culture today, if they lived. They embody ideals and behavior that we largely reject, for reasons both good and bad.

Let's see:
He was one of the richest men in america... His motto was "Exitus acta probat", or "The end justifies the means"... He has an epic temper, but could recover quickly... He loved his dirty jokes and stories, telling them to any who wanted to listen...
That's all I remember, sorry.

From: nimrod Yaffle Didn't he have wooden teeth? No actually, he had real teath placed into a wooden dentifrice. He had dentures you see. So the teeth were real, but what held them was not his gums. But it was made of wood.

From: Phoenix Psaltery It's true. In a mere five billion years the Sun will swell into a red giant, swallow Mercury and Venus, and bake the Earth to a cinder. So why bother considering anything to be significant? It's all gonna burn anyway. And since it's all gonna burn anyway, I think I should get paid whether I write any articles or not. OK, you can't blame a girl for trying..... [Goes back to the writer's dungeon, deep beneath the offices of M2]From: Lucifer Baphomet Nice story, but false. Why are the wooden teeth a nice story? I think it's kinda gross.

His brilliant victories against the British assured an American victory no matter what his place in histroy. I think he may be the only American Admiral to ever fight and win a naval battle within the state of New York.
