I wonder if that was a line from Dr. Strangelove. Might have to go google it. Eggy was Humpty Dumpty in his last life.

From: Zuzu Fassbinder They are trying to do that off the coast of Cape Cod.... Unfortunately, it may majorly screw up radar systems from what Ive heard. I dislike nuclear, but not as much as I dislike the alternatives. Id rather have a nuclear plant in my backyard then a coal/oil burning one. Trust me, as someone who lived part of his childhood in a neighborhood next to a dump (burning methane gas biodegredation byproduct for electricity), you dont want anything diffrent. Though Im a little uneasy about the waste it produces. Anyone have any info on how they're handling the waste problem? Do modern plants still produce it? ==Chris

Oh Nuclear stuff isnt all that bad, you can make pretty pools with nuclear waste and it kills some unwanted insects as well turns it into some interesting vicious sci-fi monsters. You can have them at your own yard, look how nice.
And like the two of these powerplants would be enought to build my own pocket sized cosmos with big bang and all.

From: Phedre Aquitaine In an ideal world, I'd be pro-nuclear-power myself.
Unfortunately, I live in a non-ideal world, where humans are responsible for nuclear plants and errors occur.
It's been twenty years since Chernobyl. Three Mile Island had a partial core meltdown the year I was born.
It'd be nice, but reality always gets in the way of perfection - and when it comes to nuclear material, I really don't think that "close" does the job. Come on though, everyone knows the Russians half ass build everything and take about 5 times the risks we do, to do the same thing. How many problems did they have in their space program? When you don't value human life, you can cut alot of corners... Besides, nuclear technology has to be much better than it was 20 years ago. It's still not perfect but it's not exactly the worst choice out there either. The biggest problem is all the crap it creates that has to be stored. Hopefully we'll figure out fusion soon.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

From: Garoad Kuroda Hopefully we'll figure out fusion soon. if we can get fusion to work it will be great, but by no means "clean". The easiest reaction to fuse is: D+T -> He + n two problems here: 14 MeV neutrons activating everything around them and embrittling materials need a reliable supply of Tritium (Deuterium you can get enough of from ordinary water) the big advantage over fission is that you're not running a chain reaction (to keep the reaction running you will need external power and without it the whole thing stops) unlike fission where you can have a runaway reaction (though a nuclear bomb-like explosion is simply not possible even with a fission reactor)

Nuclear scares me a bit. Yes, it may be safer with new technologies, but today's "build it on the cheap" mentality really makes me wonder if its really safe. BTW, AP posted this less than an hour ago. Let's hope the next plants are built by responsible people.
