I have a hard time understanding why anyone cares about how the universe "started" or how things came to be the way they are. It's meaningless and unknowable.

Asking the question and then doing research towards an answer may help answer other questions and provide a better understanding of the universe as it currently is, even if we never fully understand how it started.

It is certainly not meaningless.

Research into this sort of thing only leads to more questions. There was no "beginning" of the universe. It has always existed. That's why there is a lot of confusion. People assume that everything has to have had a start and an end. That's silly. |

That is where the confusion originates (or not) from. _____________________

It is certainly not meaningless. Sure it is. How does it matter, other than to people that like to argue about things that they cannot prove either way? Science isn't ever going to find God because they aren't looking in the right place. People that don't want to understand what God is will never understand it. |

precisely If nothing exists, then there's no point to anything. Nihilism is for teens. |

Science isn't ever going to find God because they aren't looking in the right place. People that don't want to understand what God is will never understand it. I didn't realize that "Science" was a big "they" that can be generalized so easily. It's not meaningless to me. Discussion is beneficial, sometimes even more so if the answers truly are "unkowable". Sometimes it's a journey of self discovery. Sometimes it's a way to hone your language skills. Sometimes you just want to annoy someone. All valuable in their own right. Who says all the forum posters don't want to understand God? Or the scientists? Ah, well, this won't go anywhere. I accept your stance as the right and proper theory on life, the uni-verse and other stuff. Thank you for being so patient with me. ![]() _____________________

Haha, you need to have a PhD to talk about anything! Der. But you do to talk about Nothing. I'm going back out to play with my Big Wheel now. Sometimes it makes a big bang when I run into stuff. That's fun. _____________________

heh, ironically while I don't have a phd in astrophysics, I was having quite a chat about it with a buddy of mine who does. He doesn't seem to think I need a phd to discuss it with him even if the discussion consists of me mostly asking questions and learning.
heh, Nihilism is pointless. _____________________

My girlfriend suddenly thinks that the film degree she literally just finished classes for this month entitles her to dismiss my ideas because "I haven't studied film in college" and that apparently "all engineers think they are artists [but are not]". _____________________

I have a hard time understanding why anyone cares about how the universe "started" or how things came to be the way they are. It's meaningless and unknowable. However, recent research has determined that exactly 6.022*10^23 angels can dance on the head of a pin. Who says there is no such thing as progress? |

Also, I'm not saying that it's pointless for scientists to research the beginning of the universe. I'm saying that it's silly to worry about whether or not evolution is "controlled" by "intelligence". People get stuck on assuming that "intelligence" can only be the same thing that humans possess. The universe's intelligence is far beyond anything we could ever understand.
