Why to talk only of SL in select, understanding company.

I learned a valuable lesson today.

Do not talk about SL with non SL-ers unless they know you're talking about SL.

My friend Allison, someone who has been kind of up and down with me for years, helped me learn this lesson today. Silly me, I forgot to say "in SL".... (edited for emphasis and cuz I hate pasting stuff straight from messengers, looks like ass)

Me: No, my other pets, Alexis and Ambrosia.
Ally: What are they?
Me: Well, they started as friends and one worked for me, and as time went on we just kinda turned it into me owning them and them being my pets.
(longer silence)
Ally: Are these people?
Me: Of course they are
Ally: People aren't pets.
Me: Well, one of them lives in a cat tree I set up (she's a neko) and the other is curled up at the foot of my bed. One wears a collar I put on her and the other wears arm and leg cuffs, and both of them proudly state they are my loyal and loving pets. So Indeed, they're my pets.
Ally: You're a sick, perverted bastard with no respect for women, aren't you?
Me: What?
Ally: Seriously. And you have a son. What the fuck, <my real name omitted>?
Me: Ally, what does my son have to do with it?
Ally: You're exposing him to this shit!
Me: How could he possibly be exposed to it?
Ally: You have someone living with you in a cat tree named Nekid or something, right?
Me: No, she's a neko, but...wait a second...
Ally: I will not wait a second!! What kind of person keeps people as pets in the same house where his 2 year old son lives? Or shit, what kind of person KEEPS PEOPLE AS PETS? Goodbye, I should have known...I hope you get what's coming to you you sick fuck.....

just don't mix the names of your RL wife and SL wife, it can be painful.

Especially in mine, my RL fiancee knows the name of my SL GF and has hated her for all the time the SL GF and I have known each other (roughly 2 years counting another game where I'd married her).

Such luck might not last forever, Corvus.

Well while I'm going to be sharing TMI....

My RL is jealous because once I met a girl online that both she and I hit it off with. It turns out the girl was someone one of my RL's friends from where she was from knew, so the two girls came to visit us.

So to avoid WAY too much TMI.....both were hot but especially my friend.....yadda yadda foursome, very happy Corvus....yadda yadda jumped me after.....yadda yadda hit it off too well....yadda yadda Jade (RL) nearly killed Danielle for jumping me in the shower (girl from net)....Corvus's online activites now harshly distrusted.

We both agreed on the girl, just not the actual attachment to said girl that then formed and was mutual.

I've had people assume Second Life was some sort of "Christian" Thing. Well.... till I start explaining Goreans, Furries, Snail Races, etc.


But then I also work with people who've never EVER heard of "World of Warcraft" and think 'solitaire' is as good as a Windows game gets.

Conversations usally go like this:

Me: So I'm on Second Life, working on stuff....
Them: Whats Second Life? Is that a christian youth group chat?
Me: No. Its an online world, kinda like World of Warcraft.
Them: Whats World of Warcraft?
Me: Um, nevermind.
Thme: (a few minutes later) Does it work on Windows 95??

Wow!!! I'm at work and I almost turned blue trying not to laugh at this because there are some co-workers here who would say the same thing! There are also some who would ask "Does it work on Windows Vista?" but those are far and few!(many Mac fan boys here)

As far as that goes, our situation is kind of weird, I guess, in that Mistress has a RL wife who's very aware of me (in fact, we've chatted before a few times, and she's nice ). It's all understood and mutually accepted.

Get rl spouse on all fours if male, get rl spouse behind you while on all fours if female.

On a side note: my rl fiance plays sl as my characters sister. Both her in game fiance and my in game gf know who we are.

Am I the only one who doesn't see anything wrong with keeping people as pets if they are adults and consent to it? Or, for that matter, that there's nothing wrong with exposing two-year-olds to such alternative lifestyles if they are explained to them in terms they can understand: "He likes playing he's a kitty"?

I mean, what's wrong with a kid being aware that that kind of stuff goes on in the world? Anything children learn when they are young becomes normal for them when they get older (kinda how we casually accepted cars, televisions, radios, etc when we were young), and in a liberalised society it might be a good idea to get kids used to the features of that society. No use conning kids into thinking the world is "clean" and "wholesome", and then leaving them to get a rude awakening when they get older...priming them perfectly for prejudice, intolerance...and violence.
