I believe that generally it is rust or oil.

Sometimes it is manufactured, sometimes just a natural occurence.

The Catholic church actually investigates these claims and rules on them. Most of the time it is not actually crying blood.

Mostly I think it is the result of sad people looking for some external meaning in their lives.

The blood is always there - but with an alpha of 0.0
They use llSensorRepeat, and in the sensor event send a linked message to the blood prims, which then llSetAlpha(1.0).
I'm not sure, but I think there is also a timer event to hide the blood again so that the owning priest doesn't have to touch it to reset.

Wow that's not that far from where I live... I kept telling people that me getting married in SL was a sign of the apocolypse, and no one believed me.

Okay...poll results on that page say 73% of people believe that it's actually crying blood...I find that extremely disturbing.

I guess it depends on what you belive in or what you want to believe in. I belive in ghosts and such because I have had many experiences with it. It's not all that unfathomable that something could make the statue cry. I'll have to read up more on this particular case but I wonder if anyone has been smart enough to take a sample of the 'tears' to have analyzed...

I can't find the source now, but I know in the past samples have been taken.

It is during these times that they find out that the sample is rust or oil or something.

I seem to remember one case (or two) where the sample was blood and they checked it against anyone who had access to the statue. It didn't belong to anyone with access. Also the blood was female blood. Let me see if I can find the article.

It's a "miracle", which means it was of supernatural origin.

But, was it God, or the Devil that did it?

Supposing that God only makes practical miracles... such as saving a drowning person, or preventing a really bad car accident, crying false idols doesn't sound like God.

I live in a predominantly Christian country in Asia, and a few years back there had been a lot of incidences regarding various statues of the Virgin Mary and the Sto Nino (Child Jesus) changing in position and crying blood among other miracles (which include rose petals falling from out of no where and each bearing the image of Mary or Jesus, icons and statues that seemed to move, apparations and dancing suns, etc) In fact, there was a sudden 'boom' of miracles and weeping statues that several frauds started sprouting up, one of the ways for the statue to weep tears involves a pump contraption inside the statue.

I can't tell for certain if all those incidences of miracles are real enough, I'm not an expert, but it was real enough for those people whose lives were touched by it. And for me that's enough. :)

Not quite correct... 73% of people with an interest of reading the story and being compelled enough to answer the survey believe that it's actually crying blood.

Psychologically speaking only people who feel very strong agreement tend to answer surveys posed in this manner. The 73% statistic doesn't comment on true public opinion as much as it comments on how flawed the survey is (or if you're really cynical - the political leanings of the person posing the survey). :D

Interesting how God seems to tailor His miracles to suit the country in which they occur.

God communicates to us in a way that it'll be easier to understand perhaps? Or maybe he bases His miracles accordingly? *lol*

It's very scary to me that even if someone is touched and thinks god did it they become blind in a way..to me reality is the best ;)

Faith is interesting.

I have tons of it...I'm faithful that the sun will rise in the morning, that I'll hit the ground when I fall, and that you laugh when you read this.

And that one day a Word will be heard by all of creation and a new morning will be born.

Bob Dylan even wrote a song 'bout it!

 :) :p
