How fitting that he was writing a paper on fascism and totalitarianism. Agents' visit chills UMass Dartmouth senior
By AARON NICODEMUS, Standard-Times staff writer
NEW BEDFORD -- A senior at UMass Dartmouth was visited by federal agents two months ago, after he requested a copy of Mao Tse-Tung's tome on Communism called "The Little Red Book." Two history professors at UMass Dartmouth, Brian Glyn Williams and Robert Pontbriand, said the student told them he requested the book through the UMass Dartmouth library's interlibrary loan program. The student, who was completing a research paper on Communism for Professor Pontbriand's class on fascism and totalitarianism, filled out a form for the request, leaving his name, address, phone number and Social Security number. He was later visited at his parents' home in New Bedford by two agents of the Department of Homeland Security, the professors said.
The professors said the student was told by the agents that the book is on a "watch list," and that his background, which included significant time abroad, triggered them to investigate the student further. "I tell my students to go to the direct source, and so he asked for the official Peking version of the book," Professor Pontbriand said. "Apparently, the Department of Homeland Security is monitoring inter-library loans, because that's what triggered the visit, as I understand it." http://www.southcoasttoday.com/daily/12-05/12-17-05/a09lo650.htm~Ulrika~

The world will be a far better place when these paranoid cold war assholes finally die off.

From: Chip Midnight The world will be a far better place when these paranoid cold war assholes finally die off. As if an Islamic terrorist is going to buy a book by on Communism by an atheist anyway. I would have thought this was a satire if I read it in the paper myself because it's so over the top as to be ridiculous. Makes me think of all those idiots that claimed when the Patriot Act was first introduced that the new powers would "certainly not be abused." I wonder how much money was spent on this little piece of "intellligence"?

The FBI can look at your library records and the people working there aren't allowed to say anything to anyone about it.
Some comedian (I forget who) said perhaps a sign saying "The FBI has not searched the patron database this week" should be put up, then when it disappears we can assume the worst.

The sad/pathetic thing is that even that information would be grounds under current law for the arrest of those involved in putting up such a sign. Go Bush!

It doesn't matter that it was a hoax, the stupid hippies will continue to believe that this happened and that the kid was pressured by the government to change his story. It's a damn conspiricy, I tells ya. The lefties have to believe in conspiracies because it's easier than accepting that they are completely wrong about everything they believe in. That's a hard thing to accept. It gives you the truth pains.

Always watching with their beady little eyes ... heads full of ways to screw over the world. Oh, wait, that's just as much paranoid drivel as the rhetoric you claim "the lefties" spew.

They believe in conspiracies because it is a part of their religion. The religion of hating George Bush. They will continue to believe this is true because they are morons.

Secret prisons, torture, illegal spying on US citizens, imprisoning people for years without charges or legal representation... all of which we know for a fact is happening (unless you're truly stupid)... that's all fine and dandy then, eh? Being against those kinds of things makes one a conspriacy theorist? A leftie fundamentalist? If being a good god-fearing patriot means turning a blind eye to or attempting to justify any of the above, no thanks. If that's the case, I'm a proud "unamerican."

Secret prisons for terrorists, "torture" for terrorists, legal spying on US citizens who receive phone calls from known terrorists, imprisoning terrorists for years without charges or legal representation. But keep pretending that George Bush is spying on random Americans. Isn't it fun to believe that? It helps your hatred grow, even though it's total bullcrap. Keep pretending that the terrorists don't matter. If there's another terrorist attack here, you'll be one of the morons that whines about how George Bush didn't do enough to protect us. And you wouldn't even see how ironic that is. You know why? Because you're not intelligent. No, being against those things doesn't make you a conspiracy theorist, it makes you an idiot who doesn't believe that terrorists are a real threat. Remember right after 9/11 when everyone was saying stuff like, "We must never forget"? They were directing that message at forgetful morons like yourself. Yes, of course you're proud to be un-American. You have no understanding of anything.

"The government isn't allowed to listen in on calls between known terrorists and people inside the US?" That's an interesting moral you have there. Maybe you should get some new morals that make sense.
