People who publicly mock others for their deficencies merely demonstrate their own, equally publicly...

Sad indeed. specially in the case of said person(s) in this isssue. isn`t RL bad enough that those jerks have to come on sl to harms others as well. After each day of my game play i can say i enjoyed for the most part. ANd i helped others the best I could. I can sleep easy knowing i have not hurt anyone. I wonder if those "SAID person(s) can sleep as easy at night......I bet the do. because in their rl they more likey upset and hurting in their lives as well. To then Second life and Real life is the same thing...... :(

spell checkers don't always work

Hi,

This is to Pratyeka - sometimes the person that cannot spell gets the word so far wrong that the spell checker also does not have a clue as to what they are trying to spell.

- There are only 10 kinds of people in the world those who understand binary and those who do not.

Welcome to SL, zaire. You communicate just fine. That's all that matters.

That's right, Zaire, and no, you're not alone.

The real goal is communication, and the true thing to laud is anyone attempting to communicate, from both sides.

It really ticks me off to see people belittled for their command of English when English isn't their first language. I bet you in practically EVERY case, the person doing the belittling can't even speak a second language!

Same for spelling (and typos in chat) - the communication is what counts. I wonder if these people have children, and if they berate their children for not knowing how to spell? That would be just as stupid.

There are oodles of highly intelligent and accomplished people who just don't spell well. Not everyone has this skill, or is able to acquire it, and for others, spelling just isn't a part of what they need to do, or particularly want to do. We have a lawyer on the forums who got criticized for his spelling, and he basically just said, piss off. haha

In fact, those who are truly interested in language are intrigued by and enjoy bridging communication gaps, whether with children, non-spellers, people with physical or mental difficulties, people with other first languages, or even nonverbal pets! That is part of the joy of language and communication.

please don't take this the wrong way, it's an honest question; can't you use a spell-checker to correct your posts? Or is there some difficulties associated with that idea that I don't know about.
For some with spelling difficulties, they would have trouble knowing which is the correct spelling of an incorrectly spelled word. Most spell checkers do not correct the document, but only give you a list of alternatives to choose from.

Spelling ability, or lack thereof, often has nothing to do with intelligence. One of the most brilliant and creative persons I know in RL is a terrible speller.

On the other hand, ignorance and intolerance are among the foremost indicators of a lack of intelligence.

Indeed Shakespeare himself used about seven spellings of his own name interchangeably through his life...and a variety of spellings for almost all other words. It was only with the introduction of the dictionary that people started to get funny about spelling.

Any fule noes spelling means nuffin

This is a great thread to see.

I personally know people who are dyslexic and they have a lot of great ideas they'd like to post on the forums, but they often feel intimidated or worried they will be criticised.

Even myself I find I re-read my posts over and over, to make sure I haven't made any spelling errors. To all those people who want to post, but are too nervous to speak up, I say go for it.

Intresting thread, Would all those people with dyslexya please raise their hand , hoof, paw, wing etc
My theory is God made smart people and to stop them from being arrogant meglomaniacs gave them dyslexya.
So all those smart people are now rushing out to get dyslexya but don't know which store sells it.
