Sorry for him? If a person has a child that acts like that, it's their own fault. They need to learn some good parenting skills and take care of the issue asap.

Yep you know it! Actually, my mother used to pinch. Not an ordinary pinch. She would very calmly very discreetly reach down grab a chunk of thigh and PINCHHHHH! There was no screaming in agony, there was only shocked open mouthed silence and you knew if a sound came out of you, you would then get the dreaded evil eye  I grew up fairly certain that with the wrong amount of childish pushing, that evil eye could lead to horrible things... never did, but it never needed to.

That was a riot.

Seriously though, I wouldn't have gotten to the first scream before the Eye of Death convinced me that I wanted to shut up. My siblings and I were expected to behave in public from infancy on if we didn't want to spend the rest of our lives in our rooms eating bread and water while everyone else had fun.

Is it just me, or do parents seem to be letting their kids act like wild dogs in public now? Is it just a U.S. thing?

When I living in Germany, there was a "joke" making the rounds that German dogs were better behaved than American children. It would have been funny if it hadn't have been true.

If one of my kids ever behaved even half that bad we would have gone home right that second and he wouldn't see a video game or a toy for at least a couple days. I don't see why some people let their children behave like little assholes. If a kid acts like that in public it's the parent not doing their job. If I had behaved like that as a child, my mom would have swatted my behind right there, and then took me home and made me do chores til I appologized. I have no idea why people think the rest of the world wants to deal with their whiny ill behaved little brats.

Did you even stop to think before making such an insulting generalization?

I agree with you Nyx. I think people should spend at least a week in a country before insulting the people in it and make generalizations.

Yes i find it highly insulting!

American dogs are MUCH better behaved than American children!

and before you get up on your moral high horse
I am a school bus driver so yes i deal with "parents" refusal to parent their spawn every day!

And if you had read her post it said "when she lived in Germany" implying that she is not there any more

Thank you for carefully reading my post.

Germans made that joke in reference to the American children they observed in their country. If you have ever visited, you would know that dogs can go into restaurants, where they sit very quietly. Thus the joke.

Considering the behavior I observed, I would have to agree. It was true.

I return you to your previously scheduled offense.

LOL! Just thinking about my dad & S.F.'s bit about German shepards. When my dad was in the military, he was in the k9 Unit during Vietnam, his job being guard duty & training german shepards.

No damn wonder my sister & I were so behaved as kids!! We were trained!!! :D

And yea, besides the ass paddling, there were the pinches, and worst of all... "The Look". Another connection to the dog training- when we were at the other end of the street or even the town, and it was time to come home, the old man would whistle. No matter where we were, we'd hear it!!

Heh, at least he didnt use shock collars

Hey don't knock shock collars!! They are very effective.

Put in an extra capacitor or two and you can even make them dance for entertainment!
Be careful not to use the ones that beep when they shock though, or the kids tend to curl up in a ball and whimper when someone's cell phone rings.

Shoot, I wouldn't have even gotten to the screaming part. I might have put that in my mother's cart, but the look she would have shot me when she was putting it back would have made me stick my hands in my pocket, look intently at the floor, and say "Yes, ma'am".

I don't think this is an american kid in this commercial though... sounds French to me.

That was a great commercial! :D

My own daughter looks at kids who are throwing fits in stores, then looks at me and shrugs. She knows the consequences for acting like a spoiled little brat and she also knows the privileges of being well behaved. She makes the choice to behave, because life with her mother is SO much more pleasant that way. ;)

It's worth mentioning again that the commercial is not even American, sounds like a scandanavian language, but can't place it.
It's also worth mentioning that just as adults can suffer from mental disorders, so can children.
If you can't out smart your children and must resort to physical pain for discipline, than I would think it failure of the parent. I dreaded time-outs and losing my toys. =D

I wrote a whole response highlihgting this point, but I decided it was TMI. Just let me say: yes, this does happen to children.
